It's not a bargain. Should be looking at T440 4th gen i5 at this price.
768 display, 3rd gen i5, I'd personally shop about on business clearance sites (i.e ITzoo etc) and see if you can jump a generation for that money.

Oh ok if you say so... I forgot that the T430 used to be a £999 laptop and nearly every enterprise supplied company had them!

£200 quid for a '30 series is nowhere near a bargain. It'd be keen for a '40 series even... I picked up an X240 this morning for £109 on eBay.

Yeah and? You think a laptop that used to be £999 in 2012 is worth X amount in 2019?? When I've pointed out to you you should be looking at a 4th Gen for that price.

Erh no... what I am referring to, is you said its NOT a bargain, when its clearly a bargain, for what you get all in all, I do not need to look for anything, but thanks for the info, its not a personal dig on here, when someone disagrees with what someone else comments on, for the money & the stellar customer service from MD & the no quibble warranty, you will not get much better and if you can, it will not for many of them!!
When you could buy a Ryzen 2200 for 30 pounds less:
ebay.co.uk/itm…vhf

or a i3 8130u (5 gens newer) are 40 pounds more:
ebay.co.uk/itm…9iG

I can not see why anyone would spend £200 on this

I'm trying to point you in the right direction. £200 for an 3rd Gen i5 is not a bargain. At £200 you should be looking at the T440 4th Gen i5. T430 you should be looking to pay £120-£150.
Sorry but not seeing a real deal here

Sounds more like a catch all to make the condition seem better than it is.

itzoo.co.uk/col…635
2generations newer, larger SSD and less money.

ebay.co.uk/itm…Rop
£60 more gets you 3 generations newer, double the SSD capacity, only real down side I see is the US keyboard.

ebay.co.uk/itm…iem
900p screen, larger SSD, cheaper, all you don't get a few minor scratches that will not effect the machine. Expand the ram and you are getting more machine for the money.

That's just a quick look at options. I'm sure I could find something better with a bit more time.

First one is sold out - not available
Second one - as you say more money
Third one - needs ram upgrade, which means buying ram and in some cases having it installed (not everyone can do it themselves), pretty sure it would void the warranty too?
Yeah not a bargain. You got to bare in mind the screen is old too unless they replaced it the backlight will be dulling

First one was in stock when I looked, obviously some deal hunter has decided it's a deal for them.

2nd one is yes more money, but substantially more laptop too.

3rd one no it would not void the warranty, this is a misnomer from aeons ago. Plus the 60 series is a piece of cake to open and install the ram. If you're the sort of person who can't manage to do a RAM upgrade with the HMM from Lenovo, then I'd strongly suggest that you should not be shopping for used, refurbished laptops.

As everyone's been saying a T430 is not something to pay over £150 for, especially if you're not getting the higher res screen.

If you really wanted a thinkpad (not too sure why you would) and have £200 then you could by a 6th gen as below:

ebay.co.uk/i/1…wcB

double the ssd size and a 6th gen i5

Personally at £50 more you could get something like this:
5 generations newer, bigger ssd
mcscom.co.uk/pro…96/

Cpu is:
gaming benchmark:76%quicker
average benchmark 79% quicker
OC benchmark:97%quicker

Of course if some gaming wanted then those 2200 ryzens that are a bargain albeit memory and ssd to really add to them.
Edited by: "Bertz99" 24th Aug
I got a 3rd Gen i7 for half that on eBay.

The T series are Lenovo's bread and butter entry level business laptops

I remember T430's being added to the pool of machines I could grab depending on requirements.

Other than the case, which follows Ibm long design of the entry level thinkpads, the screen is pretty much, against anything else I have used, the worse I have ever encountered.

Also the 128GB ssd on this was not factory supplied.

If you think the case quality merits spending £200 on an 8 year old machine - feel free. As per the point I was making you could get something far more recent, powerful with a far better quality screen and I think this is vastly overpriced here.

As to landfill I have never placed a laptop in one yet albeit business ones I am a little less careful with than my own.

The 128gb was entirely possible to specify as a configuration.

psref.lenovo.com/sys…pdf

lenovo.com/ca/…30/

That would have been a custom order with a CTO product code. Of course it's entirely possible that this is aftermarket, but to suggest it was impossible to get a 128gb with the rest of the specs here direct from Lenovo is untrue.

Also the T series is not an entry level thinkpad. There are several other series below the T series that are considered the entry level models.

These were massive sellers in the business arena and while they are not the most modern looking designs, they are functional, with semi rugged credentials that your average consumer grade tat doesn't have. Yes the screens are dreadful (though most 2nd user systems tend to be by people willing to upgrade the screen for very little money to more modern and nice panels).

The T430 in this deal however, I stand by my original comment is not a bargain in any terms and you can get substantially newer hardware within the same budget. The Dell you posted seems a pretty good shout as a deal, only down side is Dell and their notorious driver issues.

You have missed a few words in quoting me there - I quoted as their "bread and butter business entry level model" designed to sell in their thousands. imo the T series, that was once rated as a mid range laptop, has long gone. The downgrade of the screen from the T420 (lower resolution and lower brightness) was a signifanct transition as to where they saw this aimed at and it was a manoeuvre downwards whilst the mid range competition was improving here. All to do with cost and selling in their thousands (at a lot less than the RRP suggested).

The E, L, X and P are all aimed at slightly different markets that are all more niche in their ways.
