It's a nicer price than RRP and these have been available for months on the refurb store (I've had my eye on one) - while the price is tempting, I feel the price is too high for a now 2 year old device that has been superceded by a model with newer display tech and processor architecture.

Don't get me wrong, £1000 for the latest version is a tough pill to swallow but we will likely see an even newer model near the end of this year. Personally I'm going to wait for the refurb 2021 models to hit the store to at least be in the M1 camp. (edited)

X1000the Galaxy will be out of date and unusable within 2 years.

    3*
give Samsung some credit lol. The OS support is for another 3 years, plus 4 for security updates
And it won't be unusable, it'll be fine to use just no OS and security updates.

I've had the S8+ and imo it's has a much better display.

Agreed on the OS front tho - Android is quite far behind IPadOS when it comes to apps.

All this is totally pointless until iPad OS is ungimped. The display in the new model also suffers from abject edge bleeding, it's very noticeable.

They could have an M1 Ultra in there and it wouldn't make substantial difference cos the OS is holding this back now.

If you want to get a new iPad, get the one they'll release this year. The display issues should at least be fixed. This is still a fine model that'll have updates for years (mainly due to RAM)

It’s a two year old device with a four year old SOC (the extra GPU cure over the A12X shouldn’t fool anyone).

True, although the 6GB RAM in the 2020 (A12Z) over the 2018 (A12X) with 4GB RAM makes it a better purchase than previous model.

And yet it is still so good.

My 2018 Pro is still great, and will last a good few years.

But I still wouldn’t be buying it now over a newer model with much better performance and a far longer expected life.

Yet it would still be able to do more than an ipad 7 years into the future

Lol, yeah it will make a great paperweight. meanwhile even iPad Air 2 still runs everything.

I have this ipad and paid full price on release day. Its a very very good ipad, better than any other tablet I've ever used by far. And better than all the newest ipads except the pro ofcorse.

Ha ha of course it would be a paperweight.

Unlike android, ios apps requires the latest version for apps to work. So once apple stops updating it then it would definitely be a paperweight.

Android on the other hand can run apps in much older versions so your paperweight logic is flawed

Samsung now do it for 4 years and for apps most developers prevent it working on previous ios versions where as with android it almost always works.

People are so quick to talk about os updates etc but tell me what android from 5 years ago can't do on present ios. It could be only a few things but nothing life changing.

You can't say the same with ios, which shows how much more advanced android is currently (edited)

Probably better than the plus but not the ultra. Not entirely sure as have not tried either, I have looked at the standard s8 and it's miles better than that as expected.

Had this although cellular version a year or so now. Not much difference at all between this and the new models. I’d say it’s a good deal. Oh I have the s7+ too, prefer that format for films/ streaming. Ipad better work productivity and browsing. (edited)
