These ultra cheap Chromebooks/Laptops look good on the surface but once you actually get one and start using it you will wish you had gone for something a bit better. 2GB RAM and that puny Celeron will not do you any favours when browsing the media and ad heavy bloated websites that are (sadly) commonplace today...

I've got an Acer one which I think is 10 years old now. I've had the warning that the last update its just had is is final one. However the thing will not die. Still runs as fast as the day I bought it. Even the battery life is still pretty good.
Worth pointing out it's an A3 grade.

One thing I'm not keen on with their model is it had a full hd screen and everything is tiny on it. I think Chromebooks are brilliant. I use a Surface Book Pro 4 as my main laptop but the battery is starting to be a bit poor (although was never great) so think I might try and switch to a Chromebook when it's time to replace.

You can decrease screen resolution and get every thing bigger . Decreasing the screen resolution is never a problem.

It'll still work better than a Windows laptop at least for browsing. 2 years for £90 ? Seems fantastic

But you will be pleasantly surprised how much more s new one with touchscreen can do. Most Android apps and linux apps work on newer touchscreen models . I used to hate Chromebook s when they started due to lack of apps .

OOS but you can often get the better 4GB RAM 1080p version on Cash Converters for £30 or so more.

I think a lot of people don't realise the Chromebooks don't update for ever. It seems different manufacturers support them longer than others. A clued up guy in Currys had never heard of this until I told him.

I never any issues and i've had them years but tbh I buy them with the view that the battery and whole thing would last me 2-3 years and then replace anyway based on the price . Do you know howto find out when yours will expire?

cheers mate

6.5 years is pretty good! by that time the battery and specs will no doubt be a bit shabby

Not sure how you find out mate. I was considering buying one for my daughter for Uni and a woman at work told me that her update was about to expire on her Asus Chromebook and that all the manufacturers do expire at different times. I'll ask her when I see her next.

Thanks, very useful advice !!
This was the much poorer 2GB RAM, 16GB eMMC and HD screen model - if you're buying the CB3-431 you want the 4GB/32GB model with full HD IPS display, and that has been £99.97 from Laptops Direct before.

Or from Laptops Direct for £10 more (in the past) in the better grade A2 condition:
