To be honest I am definitely more of an Android fanboy, but want to try out the iPhone eco-system (on a budget), as I use a MacBook...

Seeing as Apple are going to be supporting the iPhone 5S with the next version of iOS 12 (release date August or September), thought it was worth a punt and would try one out.

Looked at a few videos on YouTube and people are saying the latest version of iOS (which is currently in BETA), runs very smoothly and faster than previous versions on the operating system on this phone.

Just ordered it in Space Grey 16GB version on O2, which I assume will let me use a GiffGaff SIM in it, for £58.49. It shows on eBay as £64.99 and then 10% discount is deducted at the checkout, taking it this lower price.

I am fully aware I will only have about 7-8GB of space available after iOS is installed, but once you start looking at the ones with more storage, you might as well start looking at the iPhone 6's and SE's.

Stock Availability as of 00:30 on Monday 11th June:

16GB Versions in Good Condition
EE/O2 - Space Grey and Silver
Vodafone - Space Grey

You might want to leave it unconnected from the internet and mobile data after it loses support. But games bought for it won't stop working on it as long as they don't need data, and they will have been checked for legitimacy on the app store.

Except they’ve announced iOS 12 will be available for it when it’s released in September. Seriously, if you don’t know about a subject, probably best not to comment

Still supported and will get full version of latest os in September- developer version of iOS 12 runs on it like a dream - ive had it running for a week on my back up handset - new lease of life for the old thing - battery life even seems good and it’s an ancient handset

No, well nothing illegal...

Still a bargain when sold for £80-100 elsewhere.
worth a go if you haven't tried IOS before as you can get most of your money back at cex anyway. Great deal

Yeah probably, and without warranty
Must be slow as watching paint dry on whatever iOS version it's on now.

Still a good price though.

I picked up an SE from them and it was mint, shame the phones nowadays are so big the little iphone in my opinion is a joy to use, In fact I prefer this to my massive Samsung S9. And for the haters of Iphones, these things just work, they do a job and do it well.

It's expensive if you buy it as a phone. But if you are buying it as an iPod with a phone a a backup, it's cheap
16GB might be a bit of a squeeze though but it's a good price for someone wanting a cheap iPhone.
I got a "good" condition iPod. It was awful, deep scratches on the screen and back.

Music Magpie have three categories, good, very God and exceptional.
As said above, it will get iOS12, so another year of updates which is focused on performance rather than features.

I bought an SE last year, which has the 5S body and 6S internals. Much prefer the smaller size. Might be worth the experiment if you feel modern phones are too big like I do.

5 and a half years of OS support is rare. It’s why I finally switched from Android despite being a critic of Apples prices for a long time.
Cheapest I can see is 89.99 minus the 10% so 80.99
Where am I going wrong?
Why are some people so dismissive of older phones? A lot of people still use the iphone 5 and are perfectly happy with it! Great price - voted hot!

Got a 32gb unlocked one off eBay, practically brand new for £80.

Just have to sift through the rubbish

Also would 16GB (11gb after OS) be enough overall?

Good price for a iOS starter mobile though

I'm all for future planning but I don't think it will make much difference to the selling price once you're finished with it.
Tenner..... If you're lucky
Company I work for is still using these as company phones. They work well enough.

Incorrect. It's supported for iOS 12.

If the iPhone X was £400 no one would hate on Apple. You can't deny that they don't make good products..

So wrong on all levels!
I have been an Android user from the off. I'm still using a Moto G V1! It still works like new and looks it too. I dislike Apple (locked down, needs iTunes for everything, Apple steals your soul etc) but at under 60 quid I became curious and then I remembered what's in the brackets above and thought nope I can't do it!
Not a bad phone but music magpie often advertise different specs to what is delivered and refuse to honour the advertised specs
pity from poor supplier

Couldn't agree less. Plenty of older models available and iOS doesn't need poweful hardware. iPhone 7 can be picked up at reasonable prices now, get one with apple warranty and you're golden. If you want older models to maintain performance try not updating them.
This is about the accurate price range for all iPhones, when you factor in features and functionality.
