Although I do agree these are more expensive than other 4K streaming devices. When you factor in iTunes give you free 4K upgrades to your HD purchases when they become available it isnt that bad of a deal imo

How do these compare to Shields?

I think someone asked the same question on a prev ATV deal. However I have never used the shield to make a comparison

The 4K upgrades are great, but locking them down to these boxes, and not even making them usable on a 5k iMac was a stupid thing to do.

Badly, the shield is as complete as you will get without setting up a htpc.

I thought the £5K iMac already had a 4K display? So you can just stream the movies using iTunes on it anyway?

Yes they are 4K but afaik it does not support DV
Great deal! Would get one if I hadn’t bought it recently from John Lewis (I used some discounted JL gift cards from Zeek, partly paid for with cashback turned into Zeek credit with an added bonus + cashback for buying the gift cards + got a £5 JL voucher with the purchase, so managed to get similar savings with a longer warranty - for anyone who’s interested, keep an eye for special offers on Zeek as the regular discount for JL gift cards is a joke).

I’m very impressed with the Apple TV 4K: love that the remote has a touch surface along with the buttons (this provides a much better user experience than the remote on the Amazon Fire TV Stick). When I need to enter text (passwords, mostly, for everything else I use Siri) I still prefer an app, and the iPhone Apple TV app works great for that. I like the greater variety of video streaming apps, now that Amazon Video is in there. And when there isn’t an app (e.g. Rakuten), AirPlay from an iPad is a fabulous workaround.

I had been using the Fire TV Stick, which I quite like, but was really annoyed that I couldn’t get Now TV and had to find workarounds for Rakuten. I tend to alternate between streaming services, so I prefer something flexible to each provider’s own box.

Anyway, this is getting long, so: expensive? Yes. Worth it? If you want a flexible box, use other Apple devices, value a great user experience, want bluetooth 5.0 and 4K video support, and plan on keeping it for at least a few years.

They are 4k and support hdr, Dolby vision is something you're going to require a specific TV for as much as the device to supply it. The shield is hands down the best multimedia device except a full fledged htpc setup. Not even a fair comparison with the apple garbage.
Also remember if you are into the Apple ecosystem then this is ideal to support your HomeKit products. That is unless you are going for a HomePod.

Garbage? Yeah ok. When’s the last time you used an Apple 4k?

Just another apple hater who will automatically vote cold and comment their hatred on any apple product. Wouldn’t surprise me if they have never owned and apple product.
I want one but still too much...sub-100 quid and i will look again.

You will be waiting a while as the 4th gen which is 3 years old dont retail new or refurbished for less than £100
tried the apple tv 4th gen, returned back due to luck of apps, as it's very limited! Pointless waste of money as the apple tv 3rd gen does exactly the same job! (I don't care about couple of games which possible to install on 4th gen!)

Why do people that hate Apple post, I’m beginning to think jealousy, probably never an Apple device in their life! I’ve had an Apple TV for years works wonders with Plex, that was out long before the Shield, & who on earth builds HTPC’s any more! Besides the Shield is clunky to use, having to sign in twice & the scrolling & search are a nightmare compared to ATV & the Roku. If you have a Mac then get the ATV it’s integration is brilliant, otherwise get the Roku, the Shield is only worth it if you want to play games as well as stream.

Always going to be the same on this site unfortunately. This deal has went hot 3 times now only to be cold voted back below 100 degrees. Im not sure if about its due to jealousy as you say, but the haters seem to almost attack people who buy or enjoy apple products. But why do they even care about how others spend there hard earned cash? Its all about what you enjoy and makes you happy at the end of the day. This is one of the cheapest deals for the latest Apple TV (apart from if you buy from Chinese website).

I really dont care that the deal has not went massively hot and I knew that when posting. If I have helped someone buy one at a discounted price then I have succeeded in my intentions for posting

I managed to get one JL card with an 8% discount (it’s usually 2%), plus a £5 Zeek promotional discount on top. Before that I had bought another (lower value) JL card with a smaller discount, but received £1 plus £5 bonus in cashback, which made up for it. Overall I saved around £25 on both vouchers and have some credit left. I did have to be patient, as JL tend to magically disappear whenever Zeek have the best bonus offers It’s easier to grab the cashback bonuses as those don’t tend to affect voucher availability as much (and so far my Zeek cashback and any associated bonuses have been paid out - usually converted into Zeek credit with an added bonus ). BTW, I did use cashback turned into Zeek credit with an 18% or 20% bonus, so the savings mentioned above were actually higher than £25.
Out of stock now for both variants. Definitely want one.
Can anyone enlighten as to whether it's worth forking out the extra 20 quid for 64gb over 32gb? What would you actually store on one of these other than apps? Do they take up much space really?

I personally bought the 32GB as its only for apps and games. I should imagine the larger storage would suit people who would like to play games as they typically are bigger in size?
