It might be constructive, when rubbishing it, to say where you could get something better for sixty five quid. Or under a hundred, if you will. There are lots of families on very restricted means and squabbles going on over who gets to use the computer. This still has a lot more power than the one that many wrote their PhD thesis up on. Or wrote their award winning novels on. Doing the church accounts on.
If nothing else - if you have a tech nerd with time on their hands - a challenge to their skills to see just how usable they can make it.
So, I have voted it hot and my thanks to the poster.

Not sure why you're getting so nancy?

You got asked to find something better you obliged but didn't actually find anything comparable with mouse keyboard etc. Then you "give up" when you got called out on it.
You say you're trying to help but I fail to see how if you're just going to get annoyed by any feedback

"You want a minimum of an i3 i5 processor and they’re old too"

Some i3 CPUs are also dual core. Also, I don't really know what you mean when you say that i3 and i5 are "old too". i3 and i5 CPUs are still being released to this day.

How do you know? The ebay ad says 8/250
Title of the eBay advert says 8gb ram and 250 hdd but the description says 4GB and 160 hdd. Be worth checking which is right. I think it will be 8gb as that’s in the title as well as the spec on the ad, wonder if they just copy and pasted the description from an earlier ad.
Whilst this looks good I've been hoping for one a small unit rather than a tower - anybody got any links for anything similar?
It doesn't really matter if its 4gb or 8gb, its going to be beyond slow, even for basic use now. The CPU will constantly be at 100% making it unusable.

HP do a very small version of this, search for hp 8300 usff on eBay. Try to get the i5 processor model.

Suspect this will be a Core 2 Duo, so near unusable. Tiny monitor. Title probably inaccurate as it differs from description, which seems more credible.
Anyone seen any good deals for *modern* machines?

“Dual core”, so it may not even be that. This will likely be painful to use even for as simple a task as browsing with more than one tab open. And the thing is, you don’t even need to spend more to get a better machine because the price is so inflated - you can pick up a 3rd or 4th generation i3 for under £50. Totally profiteering by the seller, they’ll have paid no more than about £15 for tower and screen I reckon.

Happy to, the only reason I didn’t is that most of the reasonably priced options are only available in small quantities or singly from private sellers, so no use to most people here if someone buys them. I gave the example of a fourth generation i3 which is enough for someone to base an eBay search off. Certainly not trying to deprive anyone in need of a serviceable computer - rather the opposite. To my mind this seller is taking advantage of the fact that most people don’t really know the lingo when it comes to computers to flog what is likely a very unpowered machine for far more than it’s worth. Yes it will probably be fine for word processing, but many people will want to watch the odd YouTube video and it may well struggle to even run it in HD (although there’s not much point because the screen is very small) or manage more than one browser tab. But it’s impossible to tell because you don’t know what processor you’re getting.

Here’s an example of a more recent and powerful machine, £52 but they’re accepting offers. It’s far from the latest specs but will be fast enough to handle most tasks the average user expects. This is from a very quick search for a specific processor, so there may be better deals available. These machines come up all the time, you can just look up a list of 4th or 3rd gen i3 processors, plug each one into eBay, and see what comes up.

Edit: just realised the one I linked above doesn’t come with a hard drive. If that’s not something you’re willing to fit yourself or transfer from an old machine, here’s one for £61, accepting offers.

So not the same then as this doesn’t come with anything other than the unit - no screen / keyboard etc !

People are asking for something simple to maybe surf etc

Using this with a hdd will be painful! providing it has got 8GB ram then and cheap 128gb ssd would make this machine much much faster. The hdd in this machine will be old and will have slowed down in the 10 - 15 years it's been in use. Personally I'd rather go for the 4th gen i3 posted by finknottle and get a cheap monitor keyboard and mouse to go with it.

Amount of people slagging this deal because its not the latest tech....wait for it.....for £65.
It would be great for using it for microsoft suite, emails, light surfing, where budget is extremely small. Great for someone that isn't planning on playing games or watching movies etc.

Microsoft 365 office suite requirements:
Windows OS: 1.6 (GHz) or faster, 2-core
Windows OS: 4 GB RAM; 2 GB RAM (32-bit)
Windows OS: 4 GB of available disk space
Windows OS: 1280 x 768 screen resolution (32-bit requires hardware acceleration for 4K and higher)
Windows OS: Graphics hardware acceleration requires DirectX 9 or later, with WDDM 2.0 or higher for Windows 10 (or WDDM 1.3 or higher for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update).
Any good for you tube? Or I player etc
for some people it is good deal . for some its noyt wrth

brilliant price & machine to run a retro gaming box, MAME, old consoles/computers.

You'd struggle to buy a new 17" monitor now. The world has moved on.
Absolute steal - thanks for posting
Will it play Doom Eternal? I've heard it's a well optimised game
This is older than Elvis
Don't bother when seller not even mention what CPU it is.
Can me a fool, but could it run Football Manager?
I got one of those from them 6 months back for my daughter for a bit less (£58). It came with Intel Core 2 Duo 4400, 4Gb ram, 250gb hard drive and Win10 refurb serial. I formatted the hd, installed MX linux and it is perfectly usable as a document editor, watch 720p youtube videos and play friv. I had a spare monitor so I even sold the one that came with on facebook and got £20 for it.

Cannot fault it for what I paid.

I’m not at all, just disinclined to help people who can’t see that I’m trying to help, and seem to think they’re owed something by a stranger. However, if a person is unable to type “mouse and keyboard set” and “17 inch monitor” into a search field and sort from low to high, I think they may be beyond any help I’m able to provide.

YES! Perfectly fine for youtube and iPlayer. Yesterday I discovered my old laptop from garage which I bought back in 2008. Similar specs to this deal. I did set it up for my 8 years old to do homework on it. Works perfectly fine for youtube, Microsoft word and excel.

I would recommend to get a bigger screen e.g. 27 inch and you are good to go.
Not earth shattering, but if you want to just knock up a few spreadsheets for home budgeting, a little homework surfing for those on a budget, get your nan online or do a little classic gaming, where would you find a better deal. A modern gamer wouldn't even look twice at this, but it is horses for courses, it will fit the niche for some people.
The thing with this is even for people with not a lot of money that want something basic is it's not worth the money. Main reason being is it doesn't take a few minutes of searching the likes of facebook groups to find similar specs for free or next to nothing.

So many people have systems with specs like this they bought back in the day, it became redundant, no way to get rid of it and so they ended up being dumped in the shed or attic. If nothing is on the likes of facebook or gumtree for barely £10 at the time of being interested, then I'm sure if people wanting a low spec like this asked on FB sale pages, there would be a lot of people offering their old systems for nothing.

I can understand paying for an old low spec machine like a Lenovo tiny as the small form and portability makes it worth the money, but this? No way.

Yes there might be older people who don't use Facebook but surely here at HUKD's, if they are seeing this "deal", they at very least know of FB buy/sell pages (even if it means waiting a few weeks/months until the lockdown has ended before requesting on there)

Your forgetting this has windows 10 installed, yours probably doesn't.
My daughter has a laptop with higher specs than this and since updating to windows 10 its almost unusable, where as my 2011 dual core i3 on windows 7 still works ok just a little slow

where would you find a better deal.

Places like Facebook groups when the lockdown has ended. A lot of people have these systems as redundant machines stored in the shed and attic. Someone willing to take it off their hands allows them to free up a bit of space.

Before the lockdown I often saw a lot of similar spec's listed for nothing (but must be collected) on FB groups. A few searches and it's easy to find listings.
