Oops, though this was the Toshiba... No coffee in me yet, sorry!

Can't delete posts on the Android app either, it seems.
I bought 16 of these for students to use at school... Fantastic for under £100. Runs Chrome browser really quick, boots up in seconds, 7+ hour battery life. Really can't fault it.
16gb ssd?????????*?

16gb ssd?????????*?

Standard size on all Chromebooks - doesn't need to be any bigger. All the apps are cloud based - as is the storage essentially.

It's a different way of computing & one which is far superior than Windows in my book...

If you know what a Chromebook is then this is as good a value as you'll find.

It doesn't need local storage. It uses Google drive for everything. Thats how Chrome books work
I purchased an Acer c720 chromebook about 3 years ago and it is still the most useful device I have in my house, all this despite buying all sorts of tablets and laptops since. It just works, fires up in seconds and has made every other device (including my i7 16gbRAM Lenovo thinkpad ) look slow. Battery is great and I have taken this all around the world and never had an issue. I would imagine this device here is exactly the same and even if others have slightly better specs, anyone who gets this would be more than happy with the performance!

You definitely won't regret this then, I doubt you can browse the net faster for any cheaper!
This was just over £100 brand new last year from PC World. So not hot.

Very good PC for browsing. We don't use it for much else other than internet an iPlayer/youtube

You can at your local library, but they do take a dim view when you watch Game of Thrones at full volume. Joking aside, a good value basic device at a fantastic price.

Which model? Not sure I can get by on an 11" screen.

Anyone have thoughts on how usable an 11" is? Buy, or go for a larger one?

Does it HAVE to be Word & Excel - could you use the Google apps that are MS Compatible?
If someone wants this model with 12 months warranty & from a decent company, how about this from Argos on EBay - only £10 more, but the 12 months warranty really makes up for that...

I've tried different varieties of office suites and for whatever reason most of them have formatting issues when i convert them. Though I do have a couple of non critical assignments I could possibly try googles equivilants on.
you can put linux operating system on it then Word & Excel will work ???

You probably mean Libre Office.

It should work.
I have one of these, super reliable, light, compact, very fast for browsing etc, no lag if streaming youtube for music and browsing with multiple tabs etc, I love mine!

Yes - eventually.
Modify the bios with utility from johnlewis.ie, install Gallium OS, install Wine then you can put e.g. Office 2007 on it.

You end up with a Linux laptop that still has ~8hrs battery life while being quick enough. Typing this on one.

I had an HP 14 Chromebook and the Office web suite worked fine, obviously as long as you know the web versions are cut down and not full Office (ie no macros in Excel), which I'm sure you do.

Already have a lightweight asus but battery life is important for me. Nice to be able to get through a days worth of lectures without scrambling for a plug.

Libre office was one of the biggest pains when I was using it compatibility wise.

Yeah I often use the web versions for onedrive integration when I have to use the public computers, the campus login system doesn't always play nice with office 2013's built in integration
you won't regret buying one. I picked up one on ebay for 65 delivered.
2gb not enough nowadays, source: I have a 2gb Toshiba. But a £100? BARGAIN!
just to add newer versions of chromebooks will be able to run android apps which include the android versions of word excel ect
