They definitely do! But it’s hard to get hold of someone if you need support at times.

Also, £153 is probably a bit steep for a 3rd gen i7 these days, even though it’ll still perform well.

chischis31/01/2020 18:08

Put an SSD and low form factor GPU there, and yes.

No. It’s the USFF, there’s no PCIe expansion.

Would this be any good for setting up a dedicated plex server with 3 connections?

Processor is good enough and so is the RAM and should also be gigabit ethernet (i have bigger version of this and it is). Only one hard drive can fit internally however you might be ok with connecting a external and using that as the media source.

Cheers Rhythmm. I guessed the CPU and RAM would be sufficient and I'll probably swap out the HDD for an SSD (and large external HDD for media storage) . I just wanted to try and find out if it would be a bit power hungry if left on 24/7?

No problem. Couldn't tell you about the usage unfortunately. Only thing you could do is probably buy one and monitor as for the price it is a good buy (imo anyway)
Any good for fortnite?

I just don't like sites that try to trick you into subscribe to notifications via push messages . I know a lot of people who would click this by mistake. Good deal though

Doubt you will fit any GPU there at all.

I did exactly the same with a similar system and that was an i5. I stuck in more RAM and an SSD with windows enterprise OS. The media is sat on a separate media server (HP MicroServer) connected via gigabit lan.

Wouldn't have thought so. For a start its 65watts and then you'd need a gfx card which may or may not fit in the case and may or may not work with the psu.

It’s USFF so you definitely can’t.
This is what the machine looks like - no PCIe slots and DC power brick.

Probably better off picking up one of the 8300 SFF elites (when they're in stock) and buying an i7-3770 used for about £65. Works out about £130-ish and you've got the expansion space for gpu etc then.
Thanks all. I'll keep looking for the right build. I want to move away from using my main pc as it is pretty hungry to leave on all day
Bought a HP PC from them a few weeks ago. It was dead on arrival.

Try and go for a 4th gen or newer if you're looking at 24/7 operation. From what I understand it's a lot more efficient.

Thanks for the correction! Definitely didn't see it was the ultra small form factor version. The only way a GPU could therefore be connected to this is IF it has any kind of m.2 port on the motherboard, which I doubt it has.

Thanks vomit. That makes things easier to look for.
looking forward to 6th gen being this cheap

Np. I'm using a i5 4430 with 8gb of ram in my unraid server, handles all my downloading and plex with ease. Id highly recommend looking into unraid for your new build!
Such a bad deal.
I would expect a SSD and 16GB ram at this price and the USFF just makes it even worse value.

I've looked at unraid several times and it looks powerful but far easier to use than freenas. Once I get a dedicated box I'll give it a go.
