I wish they'd update the look of the minis so I could buy one, not too keen on the 50% bezel look.

I would say so - they’re spotless and look/feel brand new. They have a new battery and shell, have 1 year Apple warranty and you can also buy AppleCare.

Plus 14 day returns period if you’re unhappy.

Looking to upgrade a mini, but there is not much difference in the look and power over the years to justify an upgrade, so holding off. They could easily make the screens bigger, but the tablet remaining close to the same size overall.

They’re basically new. Brand new outer shell and battery and the other internals are no more then a year old. Used them in March for an iPad Pro and just ordered and air 3 from them. Would recommend.
This or Samsung S5 tab e?
Purchased thanks @TildaBasmati & @Christian.Griffin

I held off on buying AppleCare+ for this though. Would you recommend? I have an iPad Mini 2 and didn't get one before. It's still spotless but looking to pass this to my mom.
I wouldn't say this one would be heavily used.
What's the best option for a five and 7 year old? Don't need anything but a few games and you tube etc...

I didn’t buy for my old iPad as it’s almost always been kept in the house. I bought this iPad too but didn’t buy AppleCare either as I don’t need it. I think you have a period after you’ve bought it in which you can decide if you want to buy AppleCare anyway.

Probably a cheap android tablet. Should handle those things fine for them.

Depends. If you’re just watching videos, S5e has a bigger and better screen for that. Otherwise the iPad will be more powerful.

Definitely no difference in look, but power? Big difference.

I’ve had the mini 4 since launch in 2015, thought the mini is dead, no upgrades for years.. really wasn’t keen on the bigger iPads as I mostly use mine in bed and it’s perfect size lol. Anyway, everything feels snappier on the 5, glad Apple didn’t give up, but hate that it looks identical. Would love the same footprint but larger screen

Doesn't it depend which mini you have? if its like the ipad there's no more support for 32-bit devices.

I was given an ipad 4 and then apple immediately & infuriatingly stopped supporting 32-bit, so that an increasing number of apps won't install or update on my device.

I've heard people say ipads are more powerful etc before, but I'm a bit confused as a lot of ipads have far less RAM than some Android devices that people say are less powerful - I think many ipads have 3Gb.

Is there something about the apple architecture that makes them able to utilise RAM more efficiently than Android devices?

From what i know, yes. Apple devices have chips custom made by apple and run on software (iOS) designed only for those devices. Therefore, everything is optimised to run as smooth;lay as possible. Combined with the power of apples chips (A12 here specifically) and the lack of RAM isn’t as noticeable and iPhones regularly preform better if not the same as Android devices of the same spec. As android is less optimised, they have a lot more (8-12 GB on average for higher end models these days) so multitasking can just benefit from physically more hardware, whereas apple make the software and hardware as close as possible.

Yes basically ipad os is very efficient so upto a point ipads dont need huge ram. Any from recent years handle all tasks flawlessley. Obviously 5-6 years later they do slow down but an android tablet would have been in the bin 3 years earlier. Our ipad pro 1st gens have 2gb of ram but never fail to do anything instantly

Apples chips are faster. You'll only notice the lack of ram if you are jumping between things or multi tasking a fair amount.

IOS is also optimised to the hardware more.

I personally hate Apple products but my kids love them, have bought 2 mac minis, two iPads and two mac books over the years and look brand new with full warranty, in fact I'd never buy new again from Apple as you couldn't tell the difference.

unfortunately I’m not super knowledgeable about low end android tablets specifically, I just know from experience they’re fine for that age range. Check out Samsung as they should be high enough quality.

Get the ipad.

I've had two samsung tabs, an S series and one of their older note models. Both slowed down a lot after 2 years of use, to the point of being unusable. Very frustrating as the note tablet was over £400.

My ipad air 2 on the other hand from 2014 is going absolutely fine! Goes to show, there's a reason people buy Apple.

I still have an ipad mini 1st gen and there is no way its that slower than the new ipad mini5th gen which my daughter has, the very tiniest of a difference in loading games wed pages and chrome. I remember someone putting up a video on youtube of and iphone 4 without updates and it switched on faster than an iphone 8 plus and loaded apps and games faster, the lighting fast phone you bought two years ago didnt become slow just because the newest one comes out, go watch the tinyest differece on game load up times on youtube and if you think thats over a 1000 times quicker your the gullible ones they market for.

Incorrect. Large scale studies have found Samsung devices have a lower lifetime by over a year than apple products. Apple have the best rated lifetime of any brand for tablets and phones

cnet.com/new…st/

statista.com/sta…fe/

Android devices/industry average is usually around 2.5 year, apple is 4+ years. I spoke to someone who works a consultancy that deals with tech orders of large companies, he's ordered 100,000s of phones/pcs/tablets for companies. His company collects data and looks at breakdowns and average lifespan, he told me they had found apple phones were outlasting android phones on average, with 10,000s of data points, by almost double. Serious.

I didn't believe it tbh, but in hindsight it makes sense. My apple devices, few as they are, an ipad air 2 and a iphone SE, have lasted 6 years, my android devices haven't come close.

Thanks for reply. Yep I agree Apple have always lasted a while, I had the first iphone on launch day when everyone else "preferred a phone with buttons.." That lasted 3 year and then went to iphone 4. That lasted 3 years and I've since averaged a new android phone every 2 years.

I'm ok with that as I prefer android, but tablet wise I had the ipad 2 and currently use a ipad mini 2 which I've had 4 years but probably 6 year old tech. It's great quality but the apple experience feels dated, feels like they aren't keeping up with the industry.

I use my tablet for browsing web, twitter, and watching vids so nothing too heavy. Screen size doesnt bother me too much, initially went for the mini as it was £189.
Use mine continuously, very useful piece of kit. I just wished they brought out a decent keyboard for use with it.

I bought my wife an ipad mini 1st gen on the same day bought myself an Google Nexus, my wifes ipad mini after a few years had poor battery and was mega slow compared to my Google, in fact I still use my Google Nexus on days out and still get 4 hours battery 6 to 7 years on ( well no days out just now but you know what I mean lol )
My wife now has a Samsung like me and doesn't like Apple but again my kids love them, I guess it's just what suit you best at the end of the day the better Samsung get the better Apple have to get and vice versa so only win win for us.

They're fine, good if you're gaming. The bezel rejection on the Pro is a nightmare, I prefer the bezels for something to hold.

These have been well under £300 a few times, so can't say this is a good price especially for a refurb. The actual iPad is very good though.

A 1000% is not 10 times faster.
How many apps won't run on an older version of ios which means you have to update and then show me an older hardware version next to a new one. The ipad I bought in 2018 which I recently updated is now much slower and there is a pause of almost 1 second between each letter when typing in some apps now. I hate updating ipads so try not to do it.

I guess I will have to get a new model. I am not sure the a12z is worth the upgrade over an older ipad pro with a12x or air/mini a12.

A difference of about one year between apple and samsung and that's not due to the hardware alone.
People are much more willing to keep or buy an older iphone than an android device. Ios devices get updates for longer than android devices
Ios devices are often much more expensive than android devices so once you factor in cost of ownership the difference may well be even less.

Companies also replace devices more often than consumers and tend to do so in waves where the age of each and every device doesn't matter so much.

This is bang on. As part of my role at work I oversee the management of 1200 smartphones and tablets and stick to Android as a rule. The Apple devices will last 5 years or so due to the extended security updates. An Android One or Samsung device will more likely get 3 years of support (longer for top end devices). But...the Apple devices generally cost three times more, which makes them more expensive in the long run. Plus of course users don't want a device for 5 years due to battery wear, scratched screens etc.
seem to be sold out now!
