Good find, I need an 42" for my bedroom, is it worth it with being a refurb ?

you get 12 month warranty

Cheers welder299 but is 12 mths enough

Had a refurbished 42" Panasonic from them a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to be new and was in original packaging, so looks a good offer to me.

I don't trust lg as a new tv so I definitely wouldn't be buying a used one, too many problems with the backlights/LEDs.

Need help deciding if you want a tea or coffee in the afternoon?

These will undoubtedly be open box returns and pretty much as new. I got this TV from Tesco with their recent XBox One deal. Its been fantastic. My last TV was LG also. Never had any problems with reliability or quality. Seems a good deal to me if your after a cheap decent size TV.

....I'd have smacked him round the face with a rotten fish if it was in person

I bought a sony tv from tesco outlet late last year, they use generic refurb boxes if they don't have the original packaging which are very ill fitting for the new slim type screens. Protective packaging they use in this situation is non existent. I had 4 units damaged in transit before I got one that was undamaged and as expected.
Dispite the amount of money Tesco Outlet wasted during the fiasco they failed to improve their generic refurb box packaging. They're incredably incompetent.

Thanks OP.

Just bought one.

I also had a 49" LG refurb that turned up and was brand new in different box.

Tesco were selling these brand new for £214 six months ago.

How would this fair for gaming?

Would definitely buy if I needed a new TV, but I don't ..

50hz is terrible for gaming is it not?
made myself a man cave in my garage for a bit of escapism and need a tv.

Most tvs made in the past 15 years even though they state 50hz can handle 60hz signal, 60fps and 50hz are not the same thing.

Even 90's tvs could handle 60hz through rgb scart for the most part.

It doesn't say it in the listing above but this TV supports 60Hz (http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-42LB5500). It's absolutely fine for gaming, used it with my 360, Xbox One and Wii U.

Thanks, just ordered :-)

Is this Freeview HD or SD anyone know...?

There's not actually much to go wrong with modern TVs - the older LCDs with CCFL backlighting commonly had power board and inverter issues, same kind of thing with plasma (high voltages, etc.); new LED edge/backlit TVs and tend to have less heavily stressed components so are generally more reliable.

That said, at £200 it's a bit of a steal and if it did fail just after a year I suspect the less scrupulous people might have an 'accident when rearranging furniture' and put in a claim.

I had nothing but trouble when I ordered a refurb from these people. They are a 3rd party company. The first tv set was missing connectors and remote control and stand, then they supposedly got them sent to me but on arrival the remote was incorrect. I was never able to get the correct one and the tv set is wall mounted but didn't ever get the stand either.
Emails were going back and forth daily, different people responding each time.

I opened a paypal dispute. Got my money back, they never did make arrangements to collect it...

The motion refresh rate is only 50 hz you wouldn't appreciate this for football and gaming not when most decent TVs are 600/800hz and upwards

Results in motion blur and flickering

The manual shows 1920x1080 at 60hz vertical refresh rate.

They had a similar LG 42' for the same price new instore at Sainsbury's. Very limited stock I'd imagine though. This is a great deal.

just like regular tesco then.

Tesco refurbished doesn't mean refurbished. It means customer return.

It's pretty much pot luck whether you get a good or bad one.

I've had two tvs from tesco outlet. my Panasonic was fantastic and the technika one I got last month was broken out of the box. its different from tv to tv, only saving grace is the good returns thar they offer. take the risk and send it back if it doesn't work.
