CameraWorld are offering a refurbished Nikon D5000 and 18-55mm VR lens kit for £349.99 plus delivery.

I ordered mine yesterday and it arrived today, so good delivery too.

This was the best price I could find anywhere for what is a decent starter DSLR with 12.3 megapixels, Live View, HD video recording and a vari-angle monitor which comes out from the camera body and can be moved around.

Some features:
• 2.7-inch vari-angle LCD monitor with downward-opening mechanism makes it easy to capture images from any angle and still keep a steady grip on the camera. When not in use it can be closed with the LCD panel facing the camera for protection.
• D-Movie lets you record beautiful high-definition (HD) movie clips with sound. The camera’s large image sensor and high ISO sensitivity offer exceptional image quality. A wide range of interchangeable NIKKOR lenses can be used to obtain cinematic effects and you can view your movie clips on the camera or an HDTV.
• Live View with subject tracking: Live View mode lets you compose images using the LCD monitor. Four easily selectable AF modes assure sharp results: Face priority AF, Wide area AF, Normal area AF and Subject Tracking AF, which keeps the camera focused on a moving subject even if it leaves the frame for a moment.
• Integrated dust reduction system: Image Sensor Cleaning and Airflow Control systems keep dust away from the camera’s image sensors for clear, spot-free images.
• Scene Recognition System optimizes exposure, autofocus, and white balance immediately before the shutter is released, to deliver precise exposures and sharply-defined images.
• Active D-Lighting automatically retains details in highlights and shadows for stunning images with natural contrast. It works at the moment you take the shot, features four levels of intensity and can be activated manually or automatically

I hope you agree that this is a good deal!

The next best price I could find was £359.99 on eBay, but that did not include a lens (though the offer did include some stuff like memory card, card reader etc).

The CameraWorld deal also includes a six month guarantee.

Looks like a good price. The only thing is that its refurbished and at this price a new D3100 might be better for those that prefer a new body. Still, voted hot.

That's a fair point - the D3100 is good too and if I'd found a cheap enough deal on a new one of those I'd probably have gone for that.

But the D5000 has some of the features of the D90 so it's got some professional quality functions in a more entry level camera.

Update: The camera arrived in Nikon box with every accessory you would expect to receive if it was new.

I wasn't sure if the camera had been refurbished by Nikon, or by CameraWorld: it was Nikon.

The only sign of it being refurbished was a sticker across the cardboard box opening tab and the yellow warranty card. Brilliant!

Would love to buy this, but frankly, it's unnecessary. Got to save my money at the mo' sadly.
Looks a good deal too.
