What stories did you hear?

I used the panasonic outlet on ebay and got a completely new tv, so good from me

Bought a soundbase from them through eBay and no problems at all

The 50" at £450 was the bargain imo. Much better than competing Samsungs at the <£500 mark

Good price! Trying to wait until a decent 10bit panel comes up on sale somewhere

vestel or japan produced ?

Saw the 50" as well, it annoying the exponential cost increase for 8 more inches, £150 more or a 33% cost rise

I was informed by the rep at Curry's that the 700 is where Panasonic start making their own models and that anything below could be a Vestel - Curry's reps aren't the best informed, but be aware that this could be the case!
This is a very good model, great build quality, has the fantastic Firefox OS and a great picture. The only real negative is that it's an 8bit screen with 8bit HDR - it's better than no HDR, but not quite as good as proper 10bit. As mentioned, it's better than just about anything LG or Samsung have in (or near) this price range.
I've been watching it for a while and waiting for a better finance option.

Yes, Panasonic made the ridiculous decision to licence out some of their low end models to Vestel, which, in my opinion, has hugely devalued one of the few real quality TV brands immensely.

As far as i'm aware Panasonic have stopped Vestel making their cheaper TV's. You might find some residual Vestel Stock but all of their current range is now made in-house.

You might be right, as the current range is the "EX" series, though last years "DX" series is still the widely available in store range - the DX7xx and above are Panasonic, and the DX6xx and below are Vestel*.....if they've cancelled the licence with Vestel then that is most definitely a step in the right direction! Panasonic are the best mainstream TV brand in my opinion.

Source?

They're certainly not generic Vestel sets with a Panasonic badge on them. You only have to look at the DX600 to see that it uses Panasonic's stand design and Panasonic's Smart TV system.

They're clearly Panasonic models even if they're sourcing some components from Vestel.

This is what I was told by the rep in Curry's at Tottenham Court Road a few months back when I was looking at the DX650, and I was aware that Vestel made some Panny models so assumed it to be correct.......however, a bit of google seems to make it quite unclear now (it looks like the suggestion might be based around the DX600/650 using an IPS panel rather than VA panel) - so if I've been told incorrectly then I do apologise and will edit my prior comments to make it clear that it isn't a fact but possibility.

This also further emphasises the mistake that Panasonic have made in allowing any of their sets to be touched by Vestel (or any other third party).

Look at the rear image of the DX 600 and below, layout exactly matches generic Vestels including the telltale slot for a 3 pin plug. Also google the Vestel catalogue for manufacturers, they can add custom stands etc as required. It's widely known they are Vestels just like the bottom of the range Toshiba, Hitachi, Blaupunkt, Celcus, Digihome etc etc etc

I thought it was anything under a 500 series that Vestel made?

I have this set and can confirm there are an inner and and outer mounts. More than happy with the set, pics via Sky or BT Ultra look excellent to me.

Panasonic stopped using Vestel in 2015. Everything since is from Japan, even the low-end DS/DX models.

Their European market TV's are assembled in the Czech Republic.

Mine would be one. The refurbished TV broke after about six months, so they collected it for repair. All fine, however, after the period of time it should've taken (about 14 working days IIRC) had gone I chased them up, only to be told they didn't know where my TV was. They not only lost it somewhere between the lorry and the workshop, but they refused to give me a refund as it was outside the allotted period and couldn't give me any indication as to when I might get the TV back.

If it doesn't go wrong, you'll be fine, but I found the level of bullish ineptitude in their customer service to be frightening.
