Picked up one of these hd action cameras for my mountain bike. Was in the Strathaven ALDI store in the glass display cabinet. Marked down from £29.99 to £9.99. Comes with an 8gb Micro SD card as well as all the different attachments depending what you want to fit it to. Includes a waterproof case. No idea how good it will be but at this price its worth a punt. No idea if it will be national but in the past some of these reductions are so its worth getting it scanned at the till just in case.

Yes they are waterproof I have ammended my post to reflect this.
Not available in every Aldi. I was after a product which had been reduced to £20.99 in one Aldi but had sold out. I spoke to the dep manager in a nearby one where it was £29.99 and they had 7 in the case and he wouldn’t reduce it any further.

I had the very same problem in a local ALDI when the manager refused to reduce a cordless drill/impact combo set. However i knew they were selling in other stores reduced by £40 so I demanded he take it to the till and scan it. The look on his face when the reduced price came up he was not happy (but i was lol) Its always worth making them check.
You can't go wrong for £10 to muck about with especially with all the accessories and a 8GB microsd card but I think you have to be more cautious about the £30 price without knowing the chipset or sensor or how decent the firmware is for features. So many of these action camera's look about the same externally but vary so much with how decent they are internally.

If you check out the videos on youtube for the Reka camera I would say the videos look quite poor both in video quality and motion quality. Seems like it may not actually be 1080p but a lower quality sensor or chipset. You see some cheap action camera's reviewed on youtube that can produce a better image than gopro's under normal conditions although often fail with regards exposure control for less than ideal conditions. £40 or less should be enough to get a very decent action camera but the market is saturated with models of varying ability at this price range. This Aldi camera looks to be a poor example but still well worth £10 surely. I mean what is the 8GB memory card worth, £3-4? So you are down to £6 or 7 for the camera with full accessories and a battery that might be usable as a spare with another similar higher spec camera.

If you need decent video editing software (especially with a camera like this) Shotcut is worth trying, completely free and many great features. Sometimes its better to match the video recording quality to the sensor rather than have the camera interpolate the resolution that way something like shotcut can do a better job of upscaling it later and the camera can record for longer with smaller files and longer battery life. Shotcut can be used just to clean up and improve the video.

Was there anymore in strathaven store?

There were some left when i posted but when i was in yesterday the one from the display cabinet was gone but when i bought mine they got it from throught the back in the warehouse so dont know if they have any left.
Thanks managed to get one in Hamilton store at lunchtime and to those interested there was only one left.
Picked up one in Baguely tonight. One left in case. Advertised at £19.99, but scanning for a tenner. Not opened yet as research tells me it might have just a 720p sensor and it's upsizing to 1080p. which is a bit of a con and I wouldn't waste even a tenner on it
I bought one last Sunday, image quality is quite poor.... But as someone said, what can you ask for a tenner?
Ok, opened it up. First page of instructions say 720p camcorder upscaling to 1080p. Of course Box has Full HD 1080p

As clear a deceptive selling practice as you can get. It's going back, rather put the tenner to something that produces footage that doesn't look like it came from 1995 !
Can anyone help me understand how this compares to other budget action cameras? Thanks

On the text for that one it says;
  • NEW LAUNCH PREMIUM SERIES OF AKASO EK7000: Featuring native 4K 30fps & 2.7K 30fps video recording and 20MP photos, AKASO V50 action camera lets you record ultra HD video and take stunning photos

Normally when you see a second figure of 2.7K 30fps that means that is the native resolution it can record at and the higher figure is interpolated to 4K. 20MP photos can mean very little, the sensor could be as low as 4MP and its just interpolated to the higher figures.

There is meant to be a new cheap Allwinner chipset V5 that enables full 4K at 30fps coming soon for budget cameras. Normally its not the sensors that is the issue they are often fine for video even 4K its just the chipset hasn't got the power to encode 4K at 30fps.

You'll need a decent memory card too Class 10 or above to allow the camera to work at its highest capacity.

It's worth pointing out there are premium models like gopro's that are their own specific design but many of the lower models are made by a few different companies and rebranded by different importers etc. So many cameras are actually the same and the actual manufacturer may offer 5 or 6 variants from very low to decent.

This Reka camera is worth a tenner but no more but you only have to pay £20-30 to get a 4MP sensor and decent chipset to do 1080p at 60fps with a 2/3K resolution at 30fps.

I got this one from amazon warehouse for £20.59 delivered.

Sold under many different brands sometimes over £100. Double batteries, just about every possible mounting, wifi and app support, wrist remote control and some very decent options. Seems great so far. At the time there was another Rollei camera to consider which was pretty much identical for the same money. A few less accessories made me buy the iconntech.
Bought one tonight from ALDI Lincoln.
Got home to find that someone had replaced the camara with a crappy Maginon AC500! and its waterproof case.
Missing accessories, manual and memory card.
Other than that a great deal.
Newark-on-Trent ALDI had one left in the stockroom. They exchanged it no problem.
Can't complain for £9.99.
There is no Micro HDMI output unlike some other cams.
There is no Car/dash cam mode on the menu.
Micro SD card is fiddly to remove compared with similar cameras.
Now only £4.99 in ALDI Lewes East Sussex!
Just got one from Aldi Strood Kent £4.99
