This is it, the album that took REM from campus darlings to international rock stars. And listening to 'Document' it is easy to see why.

The opening tracks are brimming with confidence, clearly showing the band's progression. But it's when we hit the two big singles,' The One I Love' and 'It's the End Of The World As We Know It' that it really hits home. There is no doubt that these songs changed the band's history forever by bringing them their first mainstream success. 'It's the End of The World.' owes more than a nod to Bob Dylan's 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' and shows a humour to the band that is often overlooked.

It's also funny to think that the 'One I Love' has now become something of a 'couple's' song considering the lyrics; 'a simple prop to occupy my time'. Still, however you look at it there is no doubting it's classic status.

You can also see their influence on another bands, none more so than the closing track 'Oddfellows Local 151' with Stipe growling Cobain style against an angry musical landscape. Also listen to the whole album to see their influence on Idlewild!

Hot from me. Life's Rich Pageant was the first (and still my favourite) R.E.M. album I ever bought. Document not far behind mind.

One of the best bands I have ever seen live. Fantastic. Great album too this, if anyone doesn't have a copy, you really should.

Hands up, i dont have much REM, am going to change this starting now, Great price for some classic sounds, thanks

Great band - seen them live a couple of times.

Immense

They have many great albums.

Document is their best IMO, bought this a few years ago. We'll worth £3

Agreed. Everyone should own Document

reckoning is better than these albums put together
