QAs say this is not for hair..

Agreed! People who are looking for hair trimmers for those much demanded home haircuts need to look a little further. Grooming kits are not meant for barbering. They are meant for light duty 'grooming', hence the name. They won't give the result you want, will likely pull and be painful when used on thicker head hair, and probably be damaged and rendered useless when used inappropriately.
I have one of these and it it absolutely rubbish. It wont cut through longer hair so practically useless. Has hardly any power so even after a full charge can take 10 mins plus to trim. AVOID

I paid £25 yesterday.
If you are doing your essential shopping in Lidl they have Silvercrest brand clippers (with ceramic blades and 3 year warranty) for £14.99 and also nose hair trimmers for £2.99.

What do i need to look for in the title then as a complete novice?

In addition, I have had the top of my hair scissored, so I just need something to do the back and sides. Would this work in that instance well, or still worth looking further

Look for hair clippers rather than grooming kits, something like (I'm not necessarily recommending this particular product): - tesco.com/gro…116

I don't know how thick your hair is but a grooming kit is really for facial and body hair. Perfect for edging sideburns etc but not for running through any thick hair. If your back/sides are already clipped then you might get away with it but you'd struggle to blend properly where clipped meets cut.

Second this. Not very powerful at all and best suited to keeping my neckline sharp rather than even trim my beard (let alone hair)
Lidl has a cordless set for £15 atm.
You really need a clipper head with a tapered grade, like 1 to 4, unless you want to look like a complete DIY job.

Isn't that what the different attachment heads are?
Barbers in the UK are going to have a lot of haircuts to fix later this year
14 hour charge time for 40 mins use? Wow!

Thats how long my new Oral B electric toothbrush takes to charge, it's a complete joke!. Not too long ago they said on TV how long the first brick mobile phones took to charge all I could think was "ffs thats less time than my electric toothbrush in 2020".

There's a real shortage of budget clippers these days so anything reasonable in stock is a bargain of sorts! Hair clips is the new toilet roll
£17.99 just now from argos
Decent price, but rubbish clippers. Got them currently and wish I hadn't lost my last set (different brand).
You need Wahl Clippers for a decent cut.
Any good for dogs?
What hair grades does this cut.

I have cut my hair with this small battery powered trimmer for many years. Definitely not perfect and takes about 20 minutes to do and someone to check it over at the end, but they still work fine doing it. Very lightweight to carry longterm for backpacking.

Just noticed the amazon page I linked to said I bought them October 2016. I am sure there are similar size trimmers that are better than these too, as you can see by the many iffy reviews. I was just trying to point out that doing an allover grade 1 is perfectly doable with beard trimmers, though obviously not the number 1 choice.
Done my hair myself today as it happens. Really can't blend at all. I used the remmington quick cut and my philips beard trimmer. Not brilliant but will do

Not really get a doggo one the blades are different and theyre a lot quieter so you dont scare your dog, been doing my dog for half a year with Wahl dog clippers worth it
You cant mess up with a dog like a human
I personally do #1 guard with the shortest setting on lever, trim his face with scissors (careful) go all over the way of the hair, i personally leave the tail now since its easier and looks better

The clippers were about £30 idk if tbey was the best price but i decided to get them over the chinese crap on Amazon, maybe theyre bettee but fakespot and the fact tehyre the same as dozens of other Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress listings i passed
Oh bath your dog first
Maybe get a wireless so its a more convenient maybe even able to do it in bathroom or outside if you dont want hair everywhere
