i just renovated my room and had lamps all over, so i thought it would be a good idea to buy a remote control that controls the power sockets.

Voted cold - I'd be very surprised if you can't get these cheaper - try the likes of B&Q.

Why don't you try the likes of B&Q and then vote cold if you can get them cheaper? :?

I've voted this hot, this deal comes around every 3-4 months and they are very good

But they are **** are they not?

Seem to make my TV shut down randomly

Was going to vote cold as I thought the price was 39.99 now! £19.99 isn't a bad price but not amazing I'm afraid.

Voted HOT thanks poster .

It is a good price. I bought it just before Christmas and it works pretty well. Perfect for Christmas lights, etc.

Couldn't agree more with this comment  ,far to many cold voters with nothing to back up their vote.It may be cheaper elsewhere, but let's have the evidence before shooting down well meaning deal posters.:x

Its a good price, so voted hot for that, but a word of warning, keep your receipt. I have gone through 3 packs of these due to pairing problems and then range issues which reduced to about 2 inches ! I eventually opted for the slightly more expensive own brand Maplin sent and these have been flawless.

Thanks

Idiotic worthless comments like this should lead to a ban.
So many people are put off from posting ofers because of stupid replies like that.
I really do worry about the mentality of someone who just wants to rubbish other peoples genuine attempts to help others by sharing an offer.:x

It's hardly idiotic is it, considering for every decent deal on this site there is a pile of ones that would probably warrant a banning more than said commment!

On top of that a high volume of them get hand picked from mail shots that half the country are receiving...or from rags which more than half the country have access to.

Probaby a valid point, I dont know about B&Q, but I know either Aldi or Lidl have these on deal every so often and if I remember they are only around £12.99 or maybe £14.99, perhaps someone could clarify.

You get the same as this deal from Maplins and one of them can allow you to dim a light which I'm not so sure the Maplins ones do?

Anyway as some people might know, some Samsung LCD's dont go on stand-by as such, I decided to try these and it got a bit annoying when the tv went off without me switching it off.

Borrowed another brand and it was the exact same.

And for the record, I tend not to bother with voting either way, although draw the line when folk post McDonalds and Burger King offers!

you get further 5% if youre a student,
I just bought the set, you can even change the code, so you can have like like 16 set of these at home. IF you buy two sets online you get free shipping. I have ebayed and tried other places i cant find it cheaper.

lol... sorry change the code on the device and that should be it

Didn't someone just say that? :whistling:

Look, I've bought all different makes of these over the years. The Maplin ones are fine for low current applications, i.e. lamps, christmas lights, etc. but if you want ones that don't go faulty, there are other deals on the net that offer 3kw switching that would suit PC's, TV's and HiFi's. I've actually one left from the Netto "3 switch with dimmer" type that works, and one left from my original Maplin 2 switch, because I unknowingly overloaded them (still went with guidelines).

Anyway, take a look for yourself on the net, as this is still a good deal.

These are not a bad offer but they only have on/off facility but no dimmer. These at QVC are the best price I could find for remote control sockets that do dim as well.

What do you exactly mean by that, ones I have had, you learn them what you want them to control and thats about it.

I think my wireless affects it to be honest

if your wireless effects it then change the channel on the router and that again should sort it.

You can get an x10 network can't you? Bit more expensive but much more features available!

right, but not a bit more expensive. At least £15.99 for a single lamp module (without remote)

on the devices i bought you have 1-6 dip switches, if you change the combination, and set all the device to that combination it should solve your problem.

this is better compared to harmony according my knowledge harmoney learns the ird codes for the remote and resends them to the device. But these units use RF technologgy like DECT phones and wireless routers, so you DONOT need line of sight for them to work. :):santa:

I've got some of these and TBH they ain't that good. Handy for awkwardly placed sockets, but otherwise the novelty soon wears off.

I wonder how much power they eat up.

bigbak

There is a way of getting an IR remote to control RF sockets but its a bit long winded and some things don't work.

First they need to operate at 433mHz, then you need a powermid IR extender that works on the same frequency, then simply use the RF to IR end to learn the codes like you usally would, and the IR to RF end to use the learnt codes. If you have a Pronto (like me  ) then you can just turn RF on and and not use the IR to RF bit. Works fine for me on a few RF things.

Good price but I have seen cheaper can't remember where so I will go warm I think.

I have a set of these type of things and they're great for turning the lights on and off in the loft. I use the loft as an office and it's great to be able to turn the lights on without having to make my way through a pitch black loft to find the switch!

Am about to use them to set up a music system too. Basically turn speakers on and off in different parts of the house remotely. So constantly have music playing wirelessly and be able to choose where it is played remotely.

What do you think?

No dip switches on ones I have came across, just a case of learning what you want it to control, bit like all in one remotes
