In January, we learned that for one year, Microsoft would offer free Windows 10 upgrades to those running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1.
Get 'Windows 10' message should appear on your PC and you need to reserve the update which will happen automatically. You will also get email confirmation.
In case you can’t see the image above, the explanation for “How this free upgrade works” is quite straightforward:
1. Reserve your FREE upgrade to Windows 10 now. It will download once available, and you can cancel your reservation at any time.
2. You’ll get a notification after Windows 10 is downloaded to your device. Install it right away or pick a time that’s good for you.
3. After it’s install, Windows 10 is all yours.
The asterisk at the bottom explains that yes, the upgrade is free, that it’s not a trial, and that it is a full version of Windows 10. Requirements include 3GB for the download and Internet service fees in case your ISP charges you for using too much bandwidth.
Windows 10 will be released on 29th July for all PCs.

You just confirmed after years of knowing Microsoft, you know nothing, when will you learn.
Nope.
I think it is the upgrade itself that is only free for the first year, updates should be free as normal.
As it's an 'upgrade' I would imagine so. This was the case when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.
No, I believe that it's an upgrade from 7/8/8.1 to 10 which is free for the first year. If you wish to upgrade from one of these to 10 after, it'll cost you.
Possibly!

I think what he meant was, will the drivers for all these devices still be supported under Windows 10
In which case that is something people will have to ask the manufacture of the device I guess.
So does anyone know if you can get a different version of windows by paying extra than the version they want to give you and if so should you still reserve a copy now or wait
thanks for the clear instructions
