Fantastic game. Was on PS plus a few years back but if you don't have it, at this price it's a steal
I’ve got this but couldn’t get a hang of the controls, does Res Evil 0 HD handle any better?

It's the same, Resi 2 & 3 remake have/will have more standard control scheme.

Thanks, completed 2 remake recently after playing through 4 and 6 (all for the first time ever) couldn’t get into the controls of 5 either.

It definitely one that requires getting used to but I love the controls considering I grew up with the original resident evil games on the PS1.

Keep persevering with it and it will get easier.

RE0 is the same tank controls

Hopefully not a stupid question but did you use the controls where you could move (fairly) freely with the analog stick? Much nicer than the old tank controls with the D-Pad, my main issue was with the camera changes and the instinct to change directions with the change, whereas continuing to push the same way is the correct method.
Played this last year tank style. Took a bit of getting used to but then it was fine. Still a good game with tremendous atmosphere.

Fun fact: At the time it was mocked in reviews for the ease of some of the puzzles. But now compared to the newer ones it seems like the Krypton Factor....

Not sure if that was a setting I missed, it was absolutely the tank controls I couldn't get the hang of though. It's something I might have tolerated in the 90s, but not now, I'll check again (before buying RE0 possibly)

Definitely recommend having another look then. It's been a while since I played it so can't remember if I changed anything but I definitely played it without touching the D-Pad once. It's not complete free flowing movement with the analog stick like modern games but it's not too far off. I never had any problems directly related to movement, only the camera moving and messing me up. Continuing to hold right when your character is now moving up on the screen takes some getting used to.

Thanks. Never played but fancy giving it a go. Great when combined with a discounted PSN gift card

I grew up wirh tank controls, and just couldn't get on at all with that "new" control scheme you describe. If you twitch the stick a millimetre after a camera angle change, the character lurches in the totally wrong direction. Muhh better off getting used to tank controls in my opinion, but I know everyone's different.

I never played the original although I did play Dino Crisis so I used tank controls there. As you say the camera changing takes some getting used to, you just have to get in your head not to move the stick with the camera. The only really annoying parts for me was the turn in the photo gallery puzzle room and the room where you push the bust as the walls close in. When you run back around after pressing the button it was so easy to get in a loop of not getting around. Other than that though, nothing too annoying.

Guess different people will just naturally get on better with one or the other though.

Strange, I remember 4 & 5 being practically the same.

And then there's 7 which changes it all up completely

Not sure how you couldn’t get to grips with 5 as it plays the same as 4 and 6 bar 6 giving you the strafe function
