In RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY, once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, a group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

This is a bad film, but the real tragedy is what they did to Leon.

Nope. My point was that this is closer to the source materials than the Anderson movies and is still bad therefore making something more accurate to the source material doesn't automatically make it good. (edited)

Think they really let down Weskers character too. Awful film all around tbh

This is the thing though - they claimed they were making it closer to the source material, but then deviated almost entirely from it again, just like the Anderson movies did - albeit in a different way.

It's only redeeming feature is the 30 seconds shot you get of the police station, which is a faithful recreation for that one shot...and the implication of Wesker's betrayal but that is it. Heck even the opening tanker crash was poorly handled.

The casting was absolutely awful in every case - notably, Jill, Wesker, Claire, Chris, Leon...i.e. the main characters, were all really badly mis-cast with great actors in entirely the wrong roles - Birkin as the only one they got about right really.

They forgot to tell the story as well - this was a mistake of them trying to cram both Resident Evil 1 + 2 into a single, 107minute film..it's simply not enough time, which means you are rushed through everything wtih no explanation as to what's going on and why. To make things worse, you can't even rely on prior knowledge of the video game lore to fill in the gaps, since they changed so much whilst they tried to mash the two films together.

It had so much potential - but was just a poorly executed film. It's not worth £1.99 to rent, it's not worth watching for free when it eventually makes it to Channel 5. If you enjoy the Resident Evil universe at all, it will just make you angry. If you don't, it will just make you confused.

The Anderson moveis are better in every way - and that should tell you a lot (edited)

This is not a good film. However 1.99 to rent a film in 4K is a good deal so heat from me.

Proof that making adaptations more accurate to the source material is not the magic key to making adaptations good.

Production design was amazing. Everything else was not!

The ending was terrible and seemed way too abrupt

I watched it just for the sets/mansion and Robbie Amell -it wasnt worth watching for etiher. Absolutely nothing like the source material in any way -other than taking a few locations and having them in the film. Terrible but still better than the final chapter which isn't saying much.

It's actually an okay movie. I didn't like the casting for Leon though.

As a fan of the series I quite enjoyed parts of this, agree Leon was awful and it did draw to a conclusion very suddenly though

Bitterly disappointed by this movie. It would've been far more entertaining to go to the cinema and just watch the cutscenes from the games. Only worth watching for free. If you haven't played the games at all, don't watch it even for free.
