Response MiGuard A9 Alarm System - Argos £39.99

Decent value for a basic branded wireless alarm system.

I want to stress the 'basic' bit but one major selling point of the miGuard system is the ability to add more wireless miGuard bits as you go, e.g. extra PIR and magnetic sensors, pet friendly PIRs, external strobe siren, fobs etc. The cost adds up but I guess £40 isn't a bad price to start at.

Specs copy and pasted from the manufacture's website:

The miGuard A9 is a completely wirefree DIY alarm system. The convenient operation by remote control and the built-in keypad make the A9 easy to use. The alarm uses 1 Million RF code combinations to maintain security and high reliability. The control panel has a built-in loud 110dB Siren, deterring an intruder on site. The A9 has many features including: Entry and Exit Delays, Mute operation by the remote control for late night use and simple expansion of accessories by automatic learning. The panel can remote arm, disarm and monitor by phone operation, as well as use voice prompts during phone remote control.

A Wirefree External Solar Siren can easily be added for additional protection.

• Self Monitor using your existing telephone Line

Normally sells at around £100, if that means anything.

Looks good. Anyone got any experience of one of these?

Was looking at the Yale ones but this would be a good starter which I can add too.

looks ideal for shed/garage. Basic but better than nothing. HEAT

Bargain.

Not a bad price for what it is. but can't beat a decent hard wired alarm with company bell box..

I got this last week but haven't installed it yet.. I like the fact you can add upto 6 phone numbers to it and buy add ons

I don't have a phone line. can this not be installed without one desperate need of an alarm

This looks like the same one but different branding. youtu.be/epa…WRA

They are actually selling a Remote Control, Door / window contact and PIR motion detector as an extension pack for £49 so it might be cheaper to buy this and use the parts to extend your existing system!

They had a SIM version reduced to £79 a few weeks ago which I went for. You can send texts to it to switch it on/off and it had apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. I'm in the process of setting it up. Put a Sainsburys Mobile SIM in it with unlimited texts.

Thank you for that. I shall have a look at it online now

Seems pretty good.
Hopeful the wireless runs at a passable distance.
Got a £40 gift card-do I get this or dying light for xbox ????

thanks OP, just what i need,
i have an existing system which calls my mobile if activated, but i pay a monthly subscription for it,
that will no longer be supported by my gas/electric supplier who gave it to me,
i work nights to, they are great for peace of mind.

bugrit, it's out of stock for collection and delivery.

Does anyone know the maximum operating distance of the PIR and Magnets from the Main Control Unit?
Also, is the PIR sensor weatherproof?
Thanks

You could get Dying Light for your Xbox but then again if your home got broken into and your Xbox and copy of Dying Light got nicked you'd regret having made that choice.

Have some heat - just reserved the last one in Aylesbury.

Also considering buying a Lenovo tablet, so may be able to use the voucher from that to help pay for it.

Cheaper on … Cheaper on EBAY.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Response-Miguard-A9-Wireless-Alarm-Telephone-Communicating-Burglar-Alarm-/271794829731?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f483bf9a3

It's a good price if you want to build a system from it bespoke, but it appears to not include any sensors which will add to the cost

Do the pit have to be there own or can you use any make?

6 around the liverpool area if anyone's close to there

Does anyone actually have one of these and use it, can't find many reviews online?

Good deal

Great find!!

PIR and DOOR/WINDOW sensors removed, but still good as the KEY FOB REMOTE is included and costs £17.99 alone.

Anyone know if you can use any make of pir or does it have to be one of there's?

Wow your right there all gone

Great alarm. I have it with a PAYG SIM in it. Cost a few quid a month instead of ADT. Can set it from the control panel or via the phone app.

Just spotted on Digital Spy by Thine Wonk his use of Miguard system...
I have a MiGuard wireless alarm with a solar / battery bell box. It has a unit which you can tuck away or put somewhere (the main wireless / central controller) which has a sim card slot and is battery backed.

I have bought all the door contacts and PIRs to make sure I have good coverage and I have a remote control to activate and deactivate on entry. If somebody breaks in they have 10 seconds (configurable) to find and smash the unit from when the sensor is triggered.

If they don't the bell box is very loud and I get a text message to my phone tell me which zones have gone off and the alarm calls my phone immediately aswell and lets me hear the audio in the house. That is enough for me to decide whether to call the police to inform them of a burglary in progress. This decision would be based on the fact that 2 zones would go off if anyone entered the property not just 1, and if I could hear noise or silence.

It has backup in case of power failure and it texts me in that event, it will run for hours on battery too. No servers needed, all it requires is a 2G PAYG sim card with a tiny bit of credit (I check it monthly to check SMS is working). No alarm company to delay the callout of the police in the event I can hear people in the property, 10 seconds to alarm, 20 seconds to validate sound and confirm, police on the phone inside 60 seconds. The phone line can't be cut like a traditional landline as it uses GSM.

Personally it's worth spending a lot more for a complete kit like this Yale on offer at £199.99...
