Just coming to the end of my contract and phoned O2 to see what they could offer me.

Deal is as state above...

£27 monthly (24 months) cost + £39 upfront fee for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb data. No other company even comes close to this and I even phoned Vodafone and Carphone to see if they could match (which they couldn't).

Obviously this is a retention offer so not sure if O2 would offer this to a non-customer but it might be worth a go.

It's a pricey phone anyway but if you want it, O2 certainly are offering a very good deal.

They keep you as a customer for a further 2 years, and you paid them £39 for the privilege. Sucker.

With an iPhone you will need more than 500mb internet to make full use of it.
For that reason I have to say cold. Just me.

Have you actually used one? I have had a 3gs on 500mb for the past 2 years and use mobile web browsing more than anyone else I know and I've never gone over.

500mb:
-5,000 basic websites
-1,500 rich website (Multimedia)
-Emails 500,000
-Downloading songs: 100
-Downloading updating app 80

I could live with that easily

no.

Tariff minutes/text/data is worth around £10 so £27-£10= £17 x 24 months = £408+£39= £447 for the handset THEN you pay for your tariff afterwards. Don't be fooled into thinking it's free.

thats just how contracts work... i dont have £500 to buy pay as you go but £27 a month i can live with

I would quite happily pay £39 to add siri to my iphone4

I got this same deal on vodaphone for my mum, but £24 per month, no upfront fees and £139 cashback for her old phone. I'd go back an have another go if I were you

O2 - 2 year total cost = £687

3 - Sim free iPhone 4S from Apple = £499 (Less if you get cashback currently at 2% so £10 off)
600mins + 3000texts + 1GB data = £10x24=£240 (on 12month contract)
= £739. - £83 cashback X2 = £573 - £10 Apple cashback = total 2 year cost of £563.

Cheaper, more minutes, more data and in my view a better network for data usage.

On the plus side, you probably made your call centre handler very happy, those sort of retention contracts bring in nice commission for the centre worker - drinks will be on him or her tonight!

That's a good deal, all of the people moaning about the price are cheapo android users. 500mb/month should be more than adequate for most people

1. 3 are rubbish.
2. No unlimited texts - I would sometimes go over 3k.
3. No idea where you're getting the cashback from.
4. 3 are rubbish.

I don't get why you're being a douche about this with all the sarcasm. I've browsed this site for well over a year now and I finally thought I'd post a deal so to be honest you haven't really encouraged me to put the effort in next time. Fair enough if you don't think it's a good deal but you're just being a douche.

Anyway, I don't see how you cannot say it is a good deal. I phoned Carphone and Vodafone and the operator immediately said there's no way they could match it and I think the vodafone person said "we wouldn't even be able to come close". If someones coming to the end of their contract on O2 and wanted an iPhone 4gs this is probably the best optional available to them.

Not everyone likes the cashback offers because they're not always guarenteed etc and not everyone has £500 or whatever to spend on a phone.

Cheers

I doubt the salesperson got more than a fiver for it.

Matter of opinion.

Enjoy paying more for less though if it makes you feel better. O2 may terminate your contract if you use much more than 3000 text messages - though this does not include iMessages of course which run over Apples servers.

I am a little confused as to why you're calling me a douche, when you are the douche who didn't do his research. As for the cashback claim, I've never had issues when claiming for cashback should it not track. Always been paid promptly on time and Topcashback are an excellent example of how a cashback company should be run!

I am simply trying to highlight the benefits of owning a phone outright as opposed to on a two year long contract, what if a new iPhone comes out and you want that, how you will upgrade, O2 won't let you unless your near the end of your contract. If you had got the phone sim free you'd of been able to keep your monthly sim, and eBay'd or placed your phone onto Gumtree. If you haven't got the money for a phone to own outright, you need to take a good hard long look at yourself and think if you really need it.

Sorry you feel burnt by this.

Many regards,
Kieran

What do you mean by 'cheapo android users'? People who are using android and paying a lot less for their phones and contracts? If so,why would they be moaning about it?

I am one who is very rarely anywhere near a WiFi point. I travel a lot with the job so that is why 500Mb or even 1Gb is not enough. I also use my phone to watch TV hence big user. Agreed that just browsing does not need a lot but when you download Tv etc you need more. Just me.

Have tried for 3 days to get O2 to match this offer, but the cheapest They will do the handset for is £99.99, would have definitely signed up for a £39 handset.
