Switch is a handheld, too weak to be a console

LOL... I did too, then realised mines an RP1.... had to buy an RP3 to put in it! D'oh!
How big is this compared to real NES Classic Mini, and does it look cheap and tacky in comparison?

It's half the size of the NES Mini. This is 11cm wide and the NES Mini is 22cm. You'll get better bang for your cash with one of these, though.

I think I paid about £44 for the Pi 3 starter bundle (unit, case and memory card). Popped in a 128GB SD card and have a catalogue of around 12,000 retro games.

I was looking around and I see those mini consoles are not as tiny as I thought they were. I always thought they were roughly the size of a standard Raspberry Pi case and thought these were bigger from looking at the inside diagram, but I guess I was wrong

I already have a couple of Pi’s so I may grab one of these cases to use as a takearound retro console instead of always swapping out microsd cards

No way is the NES Mini 22cm wide - that's approaching the size of the original NES (which is 26cm). The NES mini is 13cm wide and the NESPiCase is 11.5cm wide. Look at some pictures online that show the NES Mini and NES controller together - the NES controller is 12.5cm wide and almost as big as the NES Mini.

Fair comment. I don't own one. Do you?

I just used Amazon's dimensions.

Thank you 🖒
great case, not cheap-feeling. bought one for £16 a while ago.

built-in hub connecting the nicely-positioned USB ports is good, and leaves you with three free internal USB ports... handy if you're using a Pi 2 (for Wifi and Bluetooth adapters)... or if you want to add a more reliable Bluetooth adapter on a Pi 3, which, apparently some people like to do.

there's space and fittings for a fan in the case, and a small board to connect the fan to. (I don't know what it does, exactly - maybe just power regulation? maybe a temperature sensor to trigger the fan?) however the fan itself is not included.

the one flaw is that the Ethernet port is at the front. this is just stupid. I've seen a black version which has the Ethernet port at the back - much more sensible - and the black looks nice too. it was dearer, nearer £20.

I own one and measured it before posting to be sure. I would guesss the Amazon dimensions are (bizzarely) for the packaging/box the box the NES Mini comes in, and not the mini itself.
