Booked to visit my family in January (smack in the middle of Aussie summer) and was surprised since it costs less per person than my one-way ticket from Aus to London about 2 years ago. Price will probably change over time but definitely the cheapest if you're looking to get out of here over winter.

only downside is the return trip if you don't like planes, airports or travelling in general.

It's Garuda Indonesia Airlines, flying from London to Melbourne. Dates are from 01/01/16 to 13/01/16. One stop on the way there and 2 stops on the way back. Quite cheap for what it is. You'll have to search for the dates above and it should be Heathrow to Melbourne International Airport.

have you checked this deal op … have you checked this deal op http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/london-auckland-from-348-for-a-round-trip-thai-airways-skyscanner-2491766

cheap! but Auckland is in New Zealand which is no fun compared to Aus I wonder why London to Auckland is so cheap though because it's actually a longer flight...

Think one of the Middle Eastern airlines started to fly to NZ, or at least had a route planned, so some of the others have been competing. There were some £169ish fares from Los Angeles to NZ via Sydney etc. with AA and/or Qantas a few weeks ago because of this. Also some other cheap ex-EU fares.

Any examples of dates, destinations and airline?

FWIW, Garuda have some special offers, e.g. LHR-MEL-DPS-LHR for £590ish on 15/1, 1/2, 5/2 but lots more dates and can replace MEL with PER and SYD though flight times are bit longer..

Alternatively, LHR-DPS-LHR is around £410 and Jetstar/Airasia often have sales on to get to Australia, real cheap for DRW and TSV..

Yeah but anywhere in Aus to Melbourne is a trek. Syd to Melbourne is a 9 hour drive, Perth is even longer. Domestic flights are more expensive too. I actually wanted to fly from Manchester but it works out cheaper of we book a virgin train from Manchester to London and fly from there.

But you've given absolutely ZERO information...Where in Australia are your flights? Which Airline? How long is the flights/connections?

You post a deal with no information other than "Flights to Australia" then after I post suggesting a two-centre Melbourne and Bali trip you seem to question why anyone would want to go to Melbourne, only to edit your initial post to say it was to Melbourne with Garuda leaving on 1/1..

First of all January is in the middle of Australian summer. Second of all, all the details were in the link but I didn't realise the link just takes you to the home page. Thirdly, my title says London to Melbourne return for 2 people and an exact price. Need you more information? if you're planning a trip to Australia and you don't know where melbourne is you'd better check the map again... and lastly this was the cheapest deal on Skyscanner. If you do the math it's around 560 per person return so I don't see how you think it's not a good deal and I don't understand why you're mentioning flights to Bali. I'm Australian from Melbourne hence my deal and this deal is for people who live in the UK and want to go to Aus in the summer. I thought I would satisfy your questions by updating the thread with more info. Let me know if you need anymore explanations.

You've change the TITLE too...it was "London to Australia" !!!

I give up, this is so strange...enjoy your trip, but I'd rather spend £3 more and book a few days break in Bali than spend 43hr 55minutes coming home from Melbourne (yes I know you can leave the airport in your 18hour stop-over)...

Yes I did mention the return trip was lengthy. Enjoy your stay in Bali.

Enjoy your 18hours in Bali

Great price and heat added.

Although flying is statistically safer than most forms, there are 55 safer airlines than Garuda

might hold off on this one. My dad called today and said there'll be an offer for around £450 return pp direct with Etihad for flights in mid-late Jan so I'll post that here when it comes on.

So you haven't really booked it yet, just testing to see if it got hot or not.. Why not ask for advice?

My guess is you'll be extremely lucky if Etihad have flights to Australia in their summer for £450..Air China may release some for £560ish but anything under £500 (for Jan-Mar, East of Perth) is a bargain..

I've two trips to Oz booked for 2016 (one with Qatar and Emirates/Qantas the other Garuda and Jetstar) and just took advantage of the Thai Airways offer to New Zealand for February..

The Thai Airways one to NZ is ridiculously cheap. How do I expire this one? The Etihad one is going live soon I think.

There's and "expire" button under the deal/first post but if the offer is still available I wouldn't expire it.

It's a seriously good deal (but personally I'd do the break in Bali on the way back). I nearly booked it myself hence I mentioned it, but with two Oz trips already booked I decided to just to book a return to Bali for £410 instead and save £180...

Garuda is a 5-star airline, their safety record may not be that great (mainly due to domestic maintenance and weather) but the international/long-haul flights are generally to a similar standard as other "bigger" brands - makes you wonder what Emirates safety record will be next year?!.
