Great price for a return flight to Dallas. All flights involve one stop, typically in JFK but the layovers are normally relatively short (<3hrs). The Manchester to US flight is operated by Virgin Atlantic, whilst the internal US flight to Dallas is operated by Delta. Hand luggage only.

Example dates:
6th - 13th May
17th - 24th June

Likely to be many more too!

Anyone have any thoughts on Dallas vs Austin. Never been to that part of the states and was thinking of doing a long weekend in the USA in May next year for my 35th. Looking for good bars and clubs and general fun, also without the need to have a car to get everywhere. Otherwise will be looking for NYC deals.

you will probably need a car, got delayed there for two days and needed the car to get around. NY or Boston would be the best bet.

Anyone looking at this make sure you have plenty time to get through JFK it can be a nightmare with customs.

Been to Austin, Houston and San Antonio but not Dallas. Austin was great, good live music but doesn't hold a candle to Nashville in my opinion.

try Chicago.

I would give Dallas a miss, not much there.
+60 for seat picking
I used to have to go to Dallas for work quite often. With the travel dates listed, it's probably going to be fairly warm or even hot. There are lots of good restaurants and craft breweries. I guess there are a lot of night clubs, but I can't speak to that as I only went to a few in my time there. There is (or was) a pretty good music scene, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. There's the JFK tours around town as well. Personally I would go somewhere else in the states if you're looking to get over there. Even at this price I'm not sure it's worth it.

If you want bars & clubs then look up Austin but also San Antonio. I lived in North East Dallas for years and loved it but its a huge city and there isn't a huge amount to do in the downtown area.

Genuinely hated Nashville... unless you love country music then you'll love it!

I'd go to New Orleans if you're after food and a good night out, it's genuinely incredible. Memphis is worth a shout too...Beale Street is a lot of fun.

It’s a great deal if you can live out of a backpack for a week. Who flies that far without luggage?! Why are virgin trying to be a high class budget carrier? This whole ‘no bags’ game is a joke. TUI and Thomas Cook also a joke.
Dallas has a lot of shops and a few cool independent places, but it's nothing compared to somewhere like NY for cultural stuff. You'll also need a car.

I've spent a bit of time in Dallas, would choose Austin over Dallas if you're looking for clubs and bars but you would still need a car. Might be better off going to New Orleans

Agreed. I was in dallas in May with work and it was dull! Only thing seems to be the JFK shooting site and museum. Austin, San Antonio soooooo much better. Also, +1 for Chicago

I love Texas. I am going again in October for the f1. A couple of hours drive from Dallas is a place called Bandera it’s the cowboy capitol of The world. A few years ago I stayed at Mayan Ranch had a amazing time. I will hopefully get to go again at some point.

as for hand luggage only I spent 2 weeks in the USA in June this year and only took hand luggage. I flew with AA and they a small case and a smaller bag onboard. I managed fine for two weeks. I just bought my toiletries from Walmart on day one. After a week I did a wash in one hotel. I saved £120 luggage fee!

Been to Dallas, Amarillo and Houston.
i enjoyed Dallas but you only need a few days there, Deep Ellum is where all the bars are and night life just outside of the town centre but it’s pretty dead in the week so time at the weekend

I don't like it myself as generally not keen on the "College" towns like Austin, Madison etc... but I think you would like Austin for the bar scene with a good transport system to get round. It is fairly near Dallas too and connected by Greyhound Express (I think we got) so easy to get between the 2 too. Also in the area is San Antonio with it's own bar scene and also home to some UNESCO mission.

Houston and Amarillo are really not places to visit. Stayed in Amarillo just to break the bus journey between Oklahoma and Colorado.

You don't need a car for Dallas. Also just remembered the rail goes across to Fort Worth which is definitely worth a look for it's cowboy stuff and "Cattle Drive". The whole Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth area has a pretty good transit system like most Metro areas in the US.

You'e going to need a car in Texas. Austins a good night but plenty more to see in Dallas and the surrounding areas! Get a car and you can see both, I think they are only a couple of hours apart!

Hand baggage only fares have become the norm on long haul now for many European carriers, including British Airways, and for many of the US legacy carriers too

Spent three weeks on a solo road trip around Texas in 2016. From your criteria Austin is without doubt your best bet, wonderful vibrant city, Sixth Street gets blocked off every night & the people flood out from the many bars & eateries & comedy clubs onto the streets, it's like a carnival. Dallas is far more business-like, downtown bars are busy when the offices close but then quiet after about 21:00, I loved it only because I'm a JFK assassination obsessive. I would really encourage you to hire a car though & visit San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth & Dallas - it's a very easy drive. Just don't go to Houston (apart from to visit the incredible Space Center).
Plenty to do in Austin - ok 6th st is a bit of a student hangout, but there are plenty of good (tex/mex) restaurants and music venues around the city.
Downtown San Antonio has a nice feel about it, and the Alamo is worth a quick visit. Easily done in a day trip.
If only it was Houston 😔
