Have a look at Pickwick Arms. Often great prices, nice hotel in a nice area of the city (Important in NYC).

This isn't a bad find, thanks for this. Its just a shame its Delta

You could easily pay £250 for these flights. BA tend to be around the £200 mark from LHR if you can get a promo fare. I tend to take KLM via Amsterdam from Manchester, in the winter, this would cost around £260.

Hey, thanks for the Pickwick Arms tip. Any idea which site to book it on?

If you go to the delta website remember to change the country as it defaults to the United States!...

I have used expedia.co.uk before, but these days I tend to use their own site.

I guess sometimes with expedia's special pay up front rates you may be able to get rooms a few pounds cheaper.

The Belleclaire is a really nice budget hotel in a nice area, try there! Expedia often do good deals for them where you get a night free etc.

Well I'm all booked up. Major bargain this, go to New York every Feb/Mar but usually £250 each return so this saves the 2 of us £180........ what a bargain.
If you've not been then this is the ideal chance to experience the most fantastic city on earth... it really is that good.
I booked up after getting martins money saving tip yesterday afternoon... well worth joining

I am really considering booking a flight.. anyone know of any cheap New York accomodation? 8-)

same here but I cant seem to get dates past oct 2006, want to book for (Mar07) but it says unavailabe

Probably 'cos you searched for "london" as your flight origin when you need to put in "LGT" - the code for Gatwick. "london" gives flights from London Canada

LGW is Gatwick, not LGT.

Good find RichD.

Same flights are on opodo for £170, use the £20 SALE promotional code and get there for £150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-D

Great bargain, flights from belfast are £300 +

You have a link?

Opodo site says New York £174 but I can't seem to find the price on any dates yet but if you find the £160 price on Delta go to Opodo and check the same one there.

The £20 code was listed here by millarcat the other day.

Cheap acom can be found in NY but on the whole its just resonable considering where it is. I like the Wellington on 7th Avenue as its just far enough out, but 10 minute walk and your in times square.

Try using quidco hotel search engines when booking as last year I got £70 cashback by using quidco. Generally a good hotel will cost £50-£60 pw each. cheaper than London

I haven't used Opodo for over a year so it may not still be the case but they have had a £10 booking charge which only appears after you have selected your flights and you are about to pay. You will need to factor this in.

Very nice find, Im tempted to go and stock up on some clothes. Thanks

I've booked the Wellington on 55th & 7th for 4 nights double ensuite room £480 for two adults. Not the cheapest out there but used it before and like its location. Used Prontohotel on Quidco and will get 8% cashback so real cost of room nearer £440.

Nice 3* hotel as well, close enough to what you need but far enough away from the 24 hour bedlam that is NY.

£170.80 is INCLUDING booking fee and all taxes according to website, making it £150.80 before quidco :-D

Jut 35.

Can you tell me how you get hold of Prontohotel through Quidco?

Thanks.

The website isn't letting me change country at the moment as i think it has a problem, does anyone have a direct link for UK country etc.

New York and the words "cheap hotel" dont go together i'm afraid. Most budget hotels don't have a bathroom in your room, shared bathrooms are quite the norm. If you want to stay in a chain hotel then expect to pay upwards of £250 per night.

Pickwick Arms is more of a hostel that hotel to be honest (bunk beds anyone?)

Hotel Grand Union is a good stay, around $170 a night & has its own bathroom.

Before going anywhere in the world, i always use www.tripadvisor.com, honest no bull reviews on pretty much any hotel in the world.

The Wellington is where Borat stays in his new movie lol! Quite a bit more expensive that your quoted prices there now.

Damn, I thought the cheap flights were back. I guess this deal is expired now.

It isn't a hostel - it is a hotel that has some budget rooms.
Yes some rooms have bunk beds and a shared bathroom / shower (very clean by the way, I had a look in them a few times), but there are also rooms with proper beds (comfy) and private bathrooms. These cost only a bit more per day.

It basically trys to cater for every ones budget, that's all. I have stopped there a few times, believe me, its a hotel, and nice.

For a dodgy hostel in Manhattan, look up West Side Inn on Trip Advisor - the story's are true! I suppose thats what should be expected for around $25 a night.

I have just revisited the reviews on TA for a laugh, here are my favorites.

The lobby was dirty and smelt of death, the lift did not work, the corridors had sticky floors and I swear the walls were sweating, the bathrooms were filthy and on more than one occasion the toilets overflowed depositing human waste on the floor, the showers trickled out icy water

First, the Indian man on reception was very rude and took our passports (illegal) and made us wait for ages because he couldn't find our reservation. He told us that we had to pay a daily tourist tax

After going out, the Indian man came up and started banging on our door shouting "you owe money" (tourist tax), this happened on several occasions - even though we kept telling him we'd pay it before leaving.

During our stay we also saw that there were weird people actually living in the hotel, there was an old oriental woman living in a room filled with junk and with several cats in cages.
Really, it IS that bad. Never again will I stop in such a cheap **** hole. I just booked this place without checking out TA first as it was short notice, I didn't read the reviews until I was sat in Amsterdam Schiphol. Big mistake.
