How is this deal voted cold?! Cheapest price ever on iTunes - even the 6-Film Bundle at its cheapest on iTunes works out more expensive. Heat added.
robjewitt12/04/2020 07:43

Oh, where is it free?

Some people really don't understand much. "Free with subs"! Idiot Quote of the Day.
Msx9812/04/2020 07:42

Perhaps because its 'free' with subs elsewhere?

Oh. Dear. Lord. We've got a live one here, folks!
If I remember correctly Netflix started out at around 4.99 a month too, now the 4K version costs £12 a month, twice the price of this film. In 2 years when I’ve done Disney films to death. I might not want to have to resubscribe for say £10, just to watch this film again.
Disney+ is fantastic at this price point, but like all greedy companies, eventually the value will fade.

I wonder if they’re going to end with Rise of Skywalker at £5.99?

Lol! You added the "with subs" pretty quickly. So, it's not really FREE if you have to pay a subscription now, is it? Also, please show us where it is FREE to OWN!

Thanks! I think so - this is the cheapest it's ever been on iTunes UK/US/CAN. The Star Wars digital movies don't get down to ridiculously low prices, except if it's a mis-price!

1-6 were on Amazon 2 years ago for £6.99 including bonus features.
Different platform and no time machine. Still doesn’t make me think £5.99 per movie is a good deal.

That was a mis-price and, iirc, a lot of people couldn't access them at the time to buy and it was pulled quickly. Those who got in quickly were lucky! I missed it, of course!

Good post. Agreed - in time, like pretty much everything else, they'll increase prices stealthily. I have no subscriptions, except for a year free for Apple tv, and I've no intention of keeping that one on when that expires. I buy passes for NOW TV Entertainment and Cinema whenever they're on offer, but only if the deal is good. I watch On-Demand now and it does just fine.

What’s the cost if you want to watch them again next year or the year after. £5.99 as a one off cost to watch a film as many times as I want, beats having to pay £5.99 every month I want to watch it, personally. I subscribe to Netflix, Prime video and Now Tv, so maybe another subscription for some people is just too much. I like Disney+ but I’m all for options and this is a fantastically cheap alternative option for the people that want it.
Bloody love a bit of Ewok action.

I do sub to all the major U.K. streaming services at the minute, but I also buy the movies that I love (usually when they’re in a sale), so that I have control over what I want to watch. I fancied watching Casino Royale the other night and it used to be on Now Tv but now it’s been removed. I have no control whatsoever over what the streaming add/remove monthly, if I buy it, then I can watch what I want, when I want.

Exactly. I tend to buy movies in Bundles - that's usually the best and cheapest way to get them. I have a few on my Wishlist on CheapCharts and am waiting patiently for the price to drop. Again, when the price drops to what I'm happy to pay, I do the same with Series - for example, I bought the Complete Cagney & Lacey last year for the equivalent of £7.80 from iTunes US. It makes sense and is easier knowing you've always got it to watch whenever you want, rather than taking the gamble on it being available to stream on whichever Provider you have a subscription with.
Bottom line is - if you wanna pay ongoing subs to Disney+, then this deal is not for you. If you want to own this movie it’s the cheapest it’s been for a while to own digitally.

Man, I bought the VHS edition for £30 back in the day. This price point is good vfm

Edit: I should note this was for the original trilogy only

I stand corrected (but I was meaning on all digital services, I’m a bit out of touch with Amazon/Google pricing as I buy primarily on iTunes. So i wasn’t aware of any cheaper prices on there in the past)

Afaik, Google Play hasn't ever been as cheap or cheaper and there was a cheaper mis-price deal on Amazon Video a couple of years ago, but that was pulled quickly and only a few lucky people got it in time!
The fact they’ve had the original trilogy all on sale now over the last 3 days and with the new film releasing tomorrow, I have a feeling they’ll be releasing a 9 movie box set tomorrow with a limited time price of £59.99 which would be under £7 a film. While these are only £6 a film a box set of all 9 would be better overall value if it did launch at £60.

Your opening up a minefield now lol. I've got an apple tv box myself. Technically you don't own them, your long term renting. A film studio can actually pull them.

We all know there are inherent risks with any purchase, you can buy anything new and it have trouble down the line and we have all heard stories about content being pulled, but if this was a common occurrence then digital would not be a viable option in the first place. When movies like Trolls World Tour is £15.99 for a one off rental, I still think £5.99 is a great price for the “long term rental” of ROTJ.
Thank you!

Or Google Play! When Flixster shut down, most, if not all, movies were migrated over to Google Play. Interestingly, I downloaded ALL of my Flixster Movies before the Service ended and they're all still playable on my Tablet.
Says HD, is there a 4K digital version out there by any chance?

I have thought this way about everything in life and this is a small part of the reason why I don’t have a mortgage these days . All I pay for is Amazon Prime as I need to order many computer parts throughout the year for work and sometimes Amazon deals are cheaper than eBay and saves me more than the cost of Prime membership each year. Now the family get films, TV shows and music to boot which keeps them happy. I’ve still got a couple of NowTV 6-month entertainment cards in the draw that I picked up for £14 each a few years ago. I’ll only use them in winter months if I cancel Prime.
