Reusable Shopping Trolley Release Key £1.50 BOGOF @ Ebay (sold by lawrence-laser-designs)

Found 15th Oct
A removable key for those pesky supermarket trolleys that wont accept the new 12 sided £1 coins. The advantage with this type is that the key doesn't remain in the coin slot - just insert, remove trolley, and remove key.
This is BOGOF offer, so just 75p each.
Seller has sold over 20,000 of these. Plenty of colours to choose from.

Isn’t a pound coin re-usable, AND, it only costs £1.
I suppose it’s handy for those scummy people who take the trolley home, then dump it.

They work great. My coin one stopped working when the new £1 came out.

Great idea - many thanks!

Read the description! Some trolleys WONT accept the new 12 sided coin.

These are brilliant. Had one since last christmas and use it daily. Helped plenty of elderly people who have had problems getting trollies out as well.

I’ll grab some of these as spares.

What about trolleys where the coin goes into a tray that you push in to unlock, rather than into a slot? Can't see one of these working with them, so you would still need to carry a coin or token as well.

Tesco were giving out tokens to vote for something. I kept 2 because they work perfectly

So yes you can't use them in all trolleys as I said. Pretty much pointless then if you still need to carry a coin or token.

another moron

Clearly says in the description will work with new and old pound coin operated trolleys!

Am I missing the completely obvious here! The old pound coin is not valid currency after today... I’m sure all trolleys have been converted to the new coin or you don’t need one ... so how is this worth anything! If this interests you I’ve got a load of old £5 notes you can have for £10 each!!!

Yes and it says not with the tray type trolleys. So unlike a 12 sided token not 100% reliable.

Currency? you don't ever pay for the trolley, it's just a small incentive to return it. I mean if you stole the trolley, you would also still have your money inside it.

Old pound coins still have value and can be changed up at the bank.

Most trolleys were converted to accept both, unless the mechanism is sophisticated enough this will work as a new pound coin anyway

OBJECTION
new trollies at Tesco have a slide out system where old or new shaped coins drop in and slide back into said trolley therefore this will not be able to be used.
The prosecution rests m’lud.

Yes they do work on the new trolly it’s great if you haven’t got any change on you

And in the item specifics, (that's the text bit above the pictures), it clearly states

Shape: Circle £1 ONLY - Not suitable for new £1 trollies
Product Specification/Shape: Old style Round £1, NOT new 12 sided £1
Size: 4cm (40mm) Length, old style £1 size

The seller is clearly contradicting themselves !!

Are people really this dumb....

The shape of this tool is round, (not 12 sided)

However, it will still work in a lot of trollies that take the 12 sided coin

New trollies are the ones with the slide out tray, it won't work with those

I contacted the seller and this is the reply,

Hi,

Thank you for your email. We have tried a number of trollies in our area with that accept the new £1 and the key fits & releases the trollies.

Thank you
Kind Regards

If you only shop in Tesco then maybe yes, but you wouldn't be buying this if you did???

For others who shop in places where this works, it's not a waste of money

This is like voting cold on a set of tyres that don't fit your car.....

Objection overruled

Thanks mate, I never thought of that

Most of the places I shop and use a trolley still accept my old round tokens, if not I use a basket and buy less.

well i do and i don't. i have a limited income so i tend to shop daily for bargains, but i don't tend to spend a lot when i do.

I just dont shop at places that need coins to get trollies. Tesco are a pos company anyway, that sort of thing along with no more 5p bags, no cardboard bottle carriers etc. So they get less money cos I will onyl guy what I can carry. gg tossco.

Lady in Tesco gave me one to use in the trolley, heat added

Damn it!!

Or move somewhere where they don't have to lock up the trollies?

20,000 people have wasted their money and made someone quite wealthy. If I ever don't have a pound coin, I just use one of my house keys, works perfectly fine every time

Making people place a returnable fee into trolleys has got zero to do with what you are suggesting. By doing this the store are trying to ensure they will be placed back into the correct area rather than random places around the site.

How does bogof work on this site. When I add 2 Nos. it still tries to charge me £3
