I don't expect tremendous heat for this one, I know you get a free cup you don't have to wash up with your free coffee.

However, I have been after a portable coffee cup for a while and this is by far the cheapest half decent one (read: moderately socially acceptable) I have found.

Not so much because I want to be eco-friendly, more because I am a tight ar*e and I'd like to be able to make a coffee at home and wander out with it.

But the eco-friendly bit is a bonus, I suppose I might try to use it that way.

They have also brought in a few more designs, so I didn't have to go the ghastly pastel pink route.

The closest I could find in price on Amazon was £3.99 with the bulk of these types of cups being over £7.99.

Is it thermo plastic type or a ceramic one?

My missus is after one for the mornings she does the school run but is a clumsy lady and would need one more likely to bounce than brake.
Heat added as i've been looking for one of these

It's thick plastic. I thought the lid might be silicone when I was looking at them on the website. But they're actually plastic too and screw on. So less chance of spillages from the top popping off. As I did to myself the other day and poured half a latte down my front trying to drink it.

Like a a grown up sippy cup really

Thanks muchly.

I manage fine with a stainless steel one screw on top, but she would like something "a bit more fancy than that"
I've had a few of these. They're ok, but the rubbery sleeve comes away quite easily. For the money I'm not complaining!

Thanks for the warning
I've had my eye on one of these for ages.. but was wondering. I presume you still get free coffee from Waitrose when you buy stuff...but if you don't, you could still get a coffee?

I think technically you are supposed to by something. But since you don't have to collect a cup anymore with this, I don't know how they would police it.

I am a syrup fiend, so I get all my coffee from the cafe, even when I take it away. The syrup is 50p and usually counts as a purchase. If that helps at all. Or a banana from the cafe is even cheaper, I think.

No, no, this really wasn't my reason.

But I guess I am prepared anyway now.

Yeah, a fair trade banana is around 10-15p in Waitrose, cheapest method I know about.

No, you still need to buy something to have one.

You are supposed to ask for it when you go through the checkout, or add it when you self checkout. You can be asked for your reciept when you fill up your mug.
Cool, cheers peeps
Bought ours at the weekend, they're pretty sturdy cups and I love that the lid screws on...the plastic lids never, ever fit properly. Btw if you don't want a banana in the cafe you can get an extra large coffee for 30p, counts as the purchase.
We have got a few of these, they are really quite decent cups - always knock myself up a coffee before I get in the car in the morning.

They have lasted well, I guess the oldest is a couple of years old now
By next year Waitrose will say free coffee only if you bring your own cups.

That's encouraging to hear they last that long

That'd be cheaper than it is now. I wouldn't say no.
Has anyone ever seen the black one in their store? I'd love one but my store only ever seems to have the pink or blue, so I'm wondering if perhaps the black is an online only?

I meant free coffee with a purchase and you bring your own cup.

To be honest, I struggle to find much worth buying for a free coffee.
I often find prices comical at Waitrose. Even offer prices are more expensive than Asda.

I find it mentally difficult to buy 1 grape, as Martin Lewis suggested.

They had black and green by the checkout in ours today. I think they're new, they didn't have them a week ago.

There's quite a few things that are the same price, better quality or on offer. For example recently there were cheapest for PG Tips. Their lemon squash is one of the best and cheap on pick your own offers. They sell a lot of cheese other places don't.

But if there's nothing you want, there's little point in making the effort for a 'free' coffee.

If you're gagging for a drink, you would be better off just upgrading to a large one.

Because you'll probably need a wee half way through the journey having one that early.

Discontinued as white not available, so deemed racist.

Cheeky monkey means mischievous child.
But if one is black it is deemed racist. I do not.
But aimed at a white child, it is not racist.
This itself is racist.

Hence, black cups have been discontinued as without white it is racist.
Someone must have complained.

(Only joking)!

Oh dear. They're not even called black. They were called Monochrome, but I was simplifying the names because I though they were poncy. And there was a good dose of laziness in there too.

Ask her to nip inside one morning to discuss the differnce between break and brake.

I noticed the price reduction at the weekend.
It says underneath the cup they are not suitable for dishwashers.

I've seen women using them.
um Greggs do one for £2 which gets you a free coffee with the first purchase and something like 40p off all coffees thereafter

I think you can use any cup to get 20p off at Greggs, this obvs won't get the first coffee free though.

There's a list of places that do discount here:

Thank for posting this. I’m no rabid ecologist, but ‘do my bit’, one bugbear of mine is Waitrose’s non-recyclable coffee cups, they must hand out 1000’s a day 😞 I spotted a notice in Costa that said they recycled all disposable coffee cups, not just their own, just to leave them on the side of the waste disposal bit.
