May want to change the title to Richer Sounds

thanks for the heads up, corrected
Great deal
Hot deal !! I'm going to get in ether tomorrow to try these out. Does anyone know if these can be used on their own to start with or do they need satellites to go with it? If they can be used in their own, what do you reckon the sound would be like?
Hi, thinking the same thing myself - a pair could make an interesting stereo set up.
Looks like Tannoy have discontinued these, hence the sudden price drop. Build quality should be very good.
Worth a go.
I feel obliged to say that this is a high end piece of kit and you need equipment to match, to get anything like the right level of performance. This sounds snobbish but to use this on the back of a £200 amplifier is a bit like putting economy unleaded into a formula one car - it will probably work, to an extent but chances are you would beat that combination using a high performance road car.
I was looking for a replacement centre speaker for a while for my Q ACOUSTICS
2050 setup. This should do a great fit to the existing setup.
How would you connect this to the amp? This speaker is fitted with 5 connections at the back - my current centre speaker only has two...

they take care of voice in a 5.1 system, so you need at least 5 more. it only makes sense if you buy the matching stuff.
Is this currently the best speaker in the world right now?

That must be the reason for all the £2000 amps.

You only need to use 2 wires to connect the speaker.
The speaker has 2 extra connection if you want to bi-wire/bi-amp.
The fifth connection is useless/ground???

They have lots of HDMI ports, fancy gimmicks, AirPlay, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi.
In terms of sound quality not much difference.

Even though this is a great reduction, the RRP was obviously inflated. And how much would a decent set of matching speakers cost?

It is designed for Bi-wiring - High Frequency (HF) Left, Low Frequency (LF) Left, HF right, LF right - plus a dedicated grounding connector. It will probably come with a HF-LF connector bridge to make it standard left and right otherwise just bridge them with a scrap of cable. You do not have to use the dedicated ground.
Just had a quick search on the site, and pair of Tannoy matching speakers (Precision) would set you back £399 (RRP £899). So for a 5.0 package you'd be spending £1100 (RRP £2800). My Yamaha All in One will do me fine thank you very much.

Looks nice but I think most people would be better off buying a decent subwoofer.

really? oO you may as well post on a topic about cornflakes and suggest they buy cheese instead.

What you get paying more is a more powerful amplifier. The amount of 7.2 AV's on the market with a 500w power supply is concerning.

Mid/high-end speakers can be damaged with a weak amplifier that can't provide enough power at high volumes. Read up on clipping.

Even though more money may reward extra features, most of time those features require better hardware that costs more.

Which costs money to implement. Read above.

If you can't bi-amp that's fine just connect the speaker the same as any other speaker.

A good set of headphones are great but a high-end sound system is something else, not just more expensive

Don't forged the amplifier and sub. It would sound great

smugjoojoo - please go to to the beginners section on how to post A DEAL .
was just about to ask if these would go nicely with a telly. Then remembered my budget for a new telly is £300 so if I bought these no new telly. anyway I think the answer will be no as people are talking about needing a £2000 amp!

You don't need to buy a £2000 amplifier to benefit from these speakers. Just don't buy an underpowered one.

You can probably use this as a tv stand...

Put a hundred hifi fans in a room with them and they'll hear a hundred different things. There's no such thing as best in a world where fools pay £100's for a better mains cable, presumably to ensure all the spikes and noise on the mains reaches their sound kit better

Even if they were the best, they still have to be reasonably matched to at least the front pair or even the cloth eared should notice something's not right.

Well if it was £999 I'd want it to be the best.

Even then, It wouldn't be the most expensive centre and probably not the best sounding either
Is this only a speaker or it has built-in 42 inch LCD for this price???

very nice speakers

That must be the reason for all the £2000 amps.

I see. So I guess you also spend £1K on digital cables and so on then, since you believe price is directly correlated to quality and vice versa. It must simplify your life, since you never have to read reviews of anything or research a purchase, you just pay for the quality you want. (_;)
Would I notice any difference if I'd replaced the centre speaker of a Q Acoustics 3000 5.1 package with this centre speaker? In other words, would it be worth it?
