This camera has a fixed wide angle prime lens though, so quite niche. You'd need to know that this is what you want before spending a lot of money on it!

It is a massively customisable camera, you can pretty much change any setting and assign three individual personal modes to the top dial. This is a camera for the enthusiast, and because it doesn’t have a zoom, the quality of the lens is better for it. The quality you get is as a DSLR but in a camera anyone would think is a point and shoot. Great street camera.

This is a bit of kit. Too rich for me but very nice. Heat.

Yes, exactly, but the lens is wider than traditionally used for street photography, so for an enthusiast who wants a fixed wide angle lens. For my money that's niche. I suspect the resale value is good though, so you could try it and not lose much if you sold it on.

Student Prime members can get an additional 10% off too, bringing it down to £341.99

Recent Ricoh reviews I've read haven't been great. I'd look into this thoroughly before splashing the cash. Probably better to go with a more popular brand such as Lumix or Fuji for availability of a wide range of lenses, etc.

watched its review few days back. It packs a punch despite the size and the layout. If you're into street photography just have a look :

I wonder what the indoor quality would be like without flash, I visit a lot of national trust properties and this looks nice, 2.8 lens is reasonably fast

That camera is a classic for street photography and the black an white you can get with this is beautiful!

I have student prime, how can I get the discount?

Auto applied at basket for me

This is a great camera. Lens is 28mm equivalent so if you're used to using a phone camera and want a camera with far superior dslr like quality this is a fantastic camera. Wide aperture too so you get some nice out of focus backgrounds and can do low light well so indoors with no flash isn't an issue. If I didn't have the first version I would snap this up in an instant. You won't find the fixed lens as restrictive as you think you will I promise - besides it has digital zoom function so you can easily crop in if required while retaining a lot of the quality.

Damn just when I click buy it now

This is not a compact system camera. There is nothing “system” about it. It also has no viewfinder and dust can get in to contaminate the sensor.

Ooo....did you say digital zoom? Just don't.

The only zooming you'll be doing with this camera is with your feet.

Unless you already know a fair bit about photography I would advise staying well clear of this camera.

Cropping the image would provide a comparable quality to a zoom lens assuming the fixed lens in this camera is very good, unless you pay allot for a high Quality zoom lens Clearly this isn't the camera to get 200mm shots with but cropping x2 or even x3 should still provide a very good quality image.

There's options for 28, 35 and 50mm equivalents. As I said if you're coming from a phone camera and want something better quality for everyday snaps this is perfect and if you want you can crop and upload to Facebook or wherever with no issues. Or alternatively go full on Cartier-Bresson and zoom with your feet and wait half an hour for the perfect moment.

Some comments round here advising digital cropping as a solution to the limitations of this camera.
IMHO this should be a last resort, not a go to solution.
