The video curse which struck in the previous instalments of Ring was not, it turns out, the first incarnation of the fatal power possessed by Sadako.

With a death toll reaching back as far as the 1950s - when open-reel tape recorders were the technological means by which the curse could manifest itself - the evil legacy has been more widespread than anyone could have imagined. Finally, the secrets surrounding the evolution of the curse are about to be revealed...

When a reporter is struck down during a widely publicized demonstration of para-psychological power by one Yananura Shizuko, unnatural events are put into motion. One by One, every single journalist present at the event is struck down, and as the 1960s draw to a close, the fiancé of the first man to die is determined to find whoever, or whatever, is responsible and take her revenge.

The first and final part of the Ring cycle, Ring 0 is a masterpiece of Japanese horror which sheds new light over the chilling tale of an ancient, fatal curse. Find the answers you seek...if you dare.

I think because it was the third film made in the trilogy and relates to a period before the original Ring film it is normally classed as a prequel.

My apologies, I was thinking of this: imdb.com/tit…68/

It is called Ringu

I see what you mean, the names are very similar.

Ringu is the Japanese Ring (1) directed by Hideo Nikato. There's also a Ringu 2 (Ring 2) and this Japanese prequel that was made later by a different director. They are based on a series of books by the Japasese equivelent of Stephen King.
Then you have the pretty good American remake of Ringu (Gore Verbinski of Pirates fame) and its sequel, which though directed in America by Nakata of Ringu 1 & 2, has nothing to do with his original Ringu 2.
He is also now making a Ring 3, but I don't know if that is a sequel to the Japanese or American series.
