Been looking at a few on Amazon around £40 with Vipon discount. Any things to watch out for or avoid? Direct from China. Anyone bought one of these unbranded ones and had good results?

Do you have one in mind that matches up to the same spec and seamless app notifications?
Does the pro need to be hardwired?

Yes it does, the Ring 2 can be either hardwired or battery operated.

Does anybody know the cheapest way to get a Costco membership?

Everyone says that. But never able to come up with something that's actually reliable
I assume you need a membership for £15 per annum to Costco?

Cheapest way would be to get a supplement card from an existing member. However, I don't know anything on cheapest membership fee but I've seen Costco deals that gave vouchers and foods coupons when you signed up their membership.

After a bit more digging, I think you're referring to the EKEN video doorbell (v5?). A few dubious reviews on Amazon, talking about big delays on recieving the alert to your phone. What's your experience of this?

I have what appears to be the same doorbell although it's under a different brand name. Hardware wise it's fine but the app/software is pretty rubbish compared to the Ring app I use with my battery cam and spotlight cam. Haven't got round to replacing it with the much more expensive Ring alternative yet but I know I will eventually.

IME it's not the hardware that's worth the extra with the Ring stuff but the software an+ back up.
I'm still struggling to see the appeal of these video doorbells?? If I'm upstairs and the bell rings then I go down and answer the door, why would I need to have a look on my phone to see who's at the door??

Somone please enlighten me why I would need to spend £160 on a doorbell?

It's for when you're not at home. It's also for monitoring who comes to your door, passes by your house etc. Using it while you're at home is almost irrelevant for this kind of bell.

Thanks, as I thought, none of those things are of interest to me, if I'm not at home then I don't care who comes to my front door as I'm not in....

I suspect there will be a cheaper variety of a video doorbell that is far cheaper than RING, someone just has to find it, the hunt continues...

Then these products are of no interest to you, basically. But I'm not sure you are thinking it through 100%

From my own personal experience I purchased a Ring spotlight cam without telling my wife (massive offer at the time and had to move quickly lol). When she got home she wasnt at all happy lol. Fast forward several months an+ she would probably get rid of me before the spotlight cam. Loves it and now can't imagine doing without it. Genuinely useful.

So you don’t care if someone kicked down your door and burgled you? You wouldn’t want to be alerted to that?

Chances are if a burglar sees one of these on your front door they’ll move on. You’re essentially sticking a CCTV device to your front door.

All the other stuff it does is just a bonus.

I want to, not because I wanna speak to someone knocking on my door (though that would be a plus), but mainly because I like to see my drive / car whenever any unusual movement outside. Dont always want to open the door or be the awkward naighbour that keeps looking through the window

Not with the same quality cameras, anti-theft warranty etc.
