Where were these spate of doorstep thefts, care to elaborate?
They should allow us to use our own cloud storage services - they already profit off the doorbell.

So you've been burgeled, yet you're not prepared to pay for a service which will record the culplit if it happened again?!
Cant seen your logic I'm afraid Philip.
If you dont have the recordings you have no evidence!
Nearly bite time for me, I think a £100 is my price point for the second version. I think these look great it’s just the subscription service that puts me off. Heat added but I’ll wait a bit longer. Thank you

I think they give you a new one if it does get stolen. Just need to report it to police and get a crime number

Id buy one of these if the camera part was separate to the door bell, the way my door is positioned, I would only pick up someone directly facing my door, I ideally want my drive way included.

The camera is a wide angle lens, I have mine mounted on door frame picks almost the whole drive and bit of the road, very good camera, I have mine set on motion detection, so anyone walking in front of the drive i get the chime ringing and my phone's alerted. Its a early warning system, tells you before anything going to happen. I also have cctv they work together quite well.
That's the cheapest I've seen the ring 2 with chime

Well the next model up is the Ring Pro, followed by the Ring Elite which is POE and coming soon is the Ring door view cam but that’s more for the renters market.

This issue is my door is in a deep recess/porch and as such it has a wall at 90 degrees to the left and the right of the door, the door is on the side of the house facing next doors house, the wide angle would pick up a wall on each side, and the camera would only pick up anything directly facing my front door..

You could go for the ring floodlight
Not sure how Costco works. You need to be a member and pay for a subscription before being able to buy stuff from them right ?

Does version 2 mount onto the same bracket as version 1? I have a v1 but I'm thinking of upgrading. I don't want to have to drill more holes though!

Yes the Ring version 1 and version 2 can be hard wired to a Byron 776 mechanical chime with built In transformer. My version 1 has been running off it continuously since July 2015.

Why not? If I buy an iPhone I can still use Dropbox to store all my stuff - my only option isn't iCloud. Apple profits off the device whether I pay for iCloud or not. That's the one thing putting me off buying a Ring.

No, but Apple will only let you buy a device that’s 64GB then jumps to 256GB with no option in between for the same reasons.

The Ring subscription is the cheapest and has the longest retention period by far amongst these types of devices. Considering the amount of storage it’ll save and the piece of mind it gives for £25 annually or the equivalent or 7p a day it’s worth every penny.

The iPhone's device storage has nothing to do with this - I'm referring to cloud storage. The same can be said about Android devices. You're not forced to use Google Drive.

If I'm already paying for ample storage with Dropbox then I don't want to be paying another £25 a year for storing Ring videos alone. Even if it is cheaper it doesn't let you store anything else so not feasible for me to switch over from Dropbox. Why should I have to pay for both?

So what your saying is that you’re already paying extra for a Dropbox subscription so you don’t want to pay another?

Dropbox only offer 2GB for free and you pay £8 a month for 1TB of cloud storage. That’s how Dropbox make money and that’s exactly the same way Ring make money too. If Dropbox didn’t offer a subscription service they wouldn’t exist and neither would Ring.

Ring make money from a) the doorbell and b) the subscription - The same way Apple make money from a) their phones and b) iCloud.

Dropbox make money only from their cloud storage. I pay for Dropbox because it lets me store everything I need to. A Ring subscription lets you store nothing but Ring videos. Why would I want to pay an extra £25 a year for that?

My point is that they already make money off the devices and should therefore give customers options on the cloud storage part. You're telling me they can only make money off the cloud storage??
