How do these hold up against the elements? Where mines would be placed would face some pretty bold weather
If only these would work with Google Home.
Anyone have any experience of these performing without existing doorbell wiring, ie on battery?

Presuming you mean on battery rather then wired, it can be hit and miss having read reviews.

If you have decent wifi reception and your router/AP doesn't have a significant delay when connecting new clients, it can perform well. But if you have a poor wifi signal, or your router/AP takes a while to connect new clients, it can be very frustrating. As the by the time the Ring has connected and altered you, the person at the door is gone :/

If at all possible i'd try to hardwire it.

Guys why AO is ranked so highly? I understand John Lewis and Amazon as they have the best customer service. Is AO as good? Currys are probably the worst (just my opinion)

My sister has one running off batteries and i have actually opened the door, signed for the parcel and said goodbye to the postman before the doorbell told me anyone was there, to be fair her wifi is not the greatest but it still convinced me not to buy one.

I'm not sure if ring will allow you to do this at the moment.
Its quite easy to do this with home assistant and a hikvision camera. I know some of their cameras has 2 way audio too, so you could definitely see and hear them on your google home hub, although I'm not sure if you could send audio back through home assistant to the camera. I'm sure there's a way, but I've never really looking into doing that.

If you can hardwire it, then I believe you are far less likely to suffer the huge delay.

When its running off battery it doesn't maintain the wifi connection to save battery. Which means it has to wake up, connect to wifi and then send the alert. If you have poor wifi coverage where the Ring is, or your router/AP takes ages to register new clients, it can result in the types of delay you've described.

If its hardwired I believe it maintains the wifi connection. So providing you have reasonable wifi coverage where the Ring is, you shouldn't suffer from significant delays.

If it allowed local storage or at least stored the last couple of alerts, I'd get this to supplement my CCTV system. But the free plan is pretty useless WRT the core USP of Ring. And given I have CCTV recording anyway, it's not worth paying for the storage.
the ring doorbell 3 is out. I have tried making a custom solar charger for ring doorbell 2 over the hardwire connection 10w solar panel, charge controller, 4ah battery, 12v dc to 24ac invertor, and resister. The hardwire is recognised but drains the 4ah lead acid very quick and doesnt charge up much at all the ring. Shame they dont have a solar solution to this.
Looked at these but then actually went for the ring stick up camera battery operated, £20 cheaper and pretty much does the same job.
Heat good deal @merb0786
The reason for the price drop is because the new version, Ring Video Doorbell 3, is due out soon.
Does the version in black (slate) ever come down to this price point?

I think it comes with a silver and a black cover, so you can change it.

I am using one. It's works fine. Just have to charge the battery over night once in a week.
Difficult to find the power adapter for ring video door bell 2.
This is cheaper because of the ring doorbell 3 has launched but I don’t see much advantage going for the 3 over the 2 especially when there is now a £90 difference . I’ve got the 2 and I’m very happy with it. Only today I took an amazon delivery to my flat , speaking to and instructing the delivery guy 17 miles away from my office. It’s brilliant. Don’t forget though , if you want to record your footage you will have to pay minimum of £2.50 a month cloud fee after the initial 1 month free service.

Don’t bother buying one if you really want to use it to talk to someone who has pressed the button. It takes too long to connect, which by the time it does, the person on the other end would have left. To be perfectly honest delivery drivers don’t want to waste time talking to someone who isn’t in! It is good though for capturing videos of who has been at your door which to me is worth the money. Also works well as a doorbell when you are in.

Eh ? Delivery drivers seem lost at the moment because the neighbours won’t take your parcel in because of corona . I’ve used the 2 way a few times over the last couple weeks , spoken to the drivers from my office 20 miles away and instructed them where to leave it safely . No problems. It’s excellent. Connection lag is likely due to connection partly from your internet or distance from router or both. You don’t want your router any further away than a few metres from the doorbell to ensure an optimum stream/response if you can help it.

Picked this up with the £40 Chime/WIFI Extender for £118.40 using my work’s discount provider. Thanks.
Does anyone know if you can power these off the existing doorbell wiring? I have a mechanical one currently, just wondering if the voltage is correct if I can avoid buying a transformer?

Don't want to have to recharge the batteries

Edit: Want the current chime to ring also when the doorbell is pressed.
