Just had an email offering Ring Video Doorbell for £119 for Co-Op members but it looks like it is open to everyone. This did really well on site when it was £169 so this seems a great price.

Available in 4 colours. There are also some accessories you can add such as a corner/wedge to change the angle.

Video i just made showing the response time from pressing button on the doorbell and it coming through to a iPad Pro on wifi and galaxy note 8 on 4G

I've had one of these for 2 years now and I really wouldn't recommend them. It's a great idea but handicapped by the execution. It sometimes just doesn't bother to tell you someone has pushed the button at all and even when it does, it dings on your phone and by the time you've picked it up, unlocked it, swiped the popup to get the notification, clicked on it to open the app... they've got bored and wandered off. Edited to amend the length of time I've owned it, I thought it was longer than 2 years.

Nice one. Great price

Shame it isn't the video doorbell 2.

Great price. Fancy one, and it looks. PLUS £80 a year for the video recording.
Anyone got one?

I have one but as I have mentioned before if your internet is slow the door bell response will be.we put a WiFi extender right next to the front door so we get a good signal. As for the monthly charge( to store the video) I pay just under £3 a month. This is a really good price.

Exactly how do you avail of the offer, it says you need to click a link which was sent to each co-op member

We have one of these but can't say we have had any issues with it when it comes to lag,be it when we are at home on the wifi or out of the house and on 4G.

I will try and take a video and post it up showing how quickly our one responds.

Do you have to pay for the video recording? Can you not host it yourself via a NAS or something?

Thanks for that still 179 maybe because I live in Ireland oh well :-(

disconnect your Chime Pro, do a live chat with them telling them you have the bell only a few feet from your hub and are experiencing problems. They said "sounds like you need a wifi boost, we'll send out a chime pro"
I did this, got my free chime pro - this would allow you to return or sell on the Pro

You haven't misunderstood, it is £24.99 per annum, just paid it last week.

Great device, well worth the money if you have it.

We have some stick-up cams (the camera only with no doorbell - £139 Maplin). These work very well for security, but there is a lag between activation and notification.

I'd say the doorbell would be more useful for someone who is not able-bodied, or not at home (or indoors at least) during the day.

The cloud data plan costs £25 per year. Handy as you can access and review and SHARE video from the ring.com website as well as review it on Android, iOS and Windows phones. But that does add an ongoing cost. Plus if ring.com every decide to drop supporting your kit (or go out of business) then the hardware is a paperweight. There's no option to stream elsewhere - Ring is a walled garden.

The people who'd most benefit from this tech are the elderly, who are least likely to have the tablet / phone / PC / internet to use it.

Good price. Ours is great. I charge mine every 3 weeks or so. Might be with waiting for black friday for the doorbell 2 or pro?

That @BuzzDuraband getting back from the pub at 2am?

Surely charging for video recording is a bit of a joke on top of the cost? Cheapest I've seen this but wasn't aware they have an annual charge.

I’m selling a ring pro for £150. Dmme if interested.

Is the WiFi extender a Ethernet one? If it's a repeater then you want to put the repeater where the signal is still good

Had one just sent it back stopped working!!!!

No problem.

Just to point out that my wifi speeds are 37mb download and 10mb upload ,and the ring doorbell requires 1mb upload and 1mb download.

Yeah got it the wrong way around lol

I've got the ring 2 and a stick up cam and both work well, I had to ring their cs about a chime that stopped working but they sent me out a replacement straight away for free.

I've owned one for 2 years and its brilliant. Granted there is a small delay on the bell to my phone but I didn't really get it for that.

Its great when I'm out for parcel deliveries, I can see what the guys do or talk to them if necessary. But most importantly owning a very nickable car, the motion sensor is priceless on a night. It wakes me up if anyone comes near. I had a guy try my front door at 3am, it woke me instantly, I had the police outside within 5 minutes and was able to send a video link to the policemans phone so they had a good description to drive round looking for him.

I’m tempted with one of these but does the doorbell mount to the door frame securely? Just wondering what’s stopping a thief walking up and just ripping it off my door before then trying to steal my car without being seen by the camera?

Comment #25 on forums.theregister.co.uk/for…em/ was my initial review of this. They've addressed some of the issues since then but "for that you get a nice looking bit of hardware that attaches to a 20p plastic backplate that's screwed onto the wall with 4 screws. The screws are a decent length and won't come out in a hurry but the backplate looks like it'll just tear off round them. The bell then fits onto the backplate with 4 tiny little plastic lugs that a child could rip off. In addition their special 'security' screws are standard size 5 torx fittings so really would only deter a passing thief who couldn't be bothered to go home and get his torx set out. Oh, and every time you screw those torx screws in, they eat a bit more of the bottom two plastic lugs on the flimsy backplate"

But it's fine because they say they'll replace it if it gets stolen!

You can't steal it without triggering it so the thief would be recorded and ring would send a new one.

These are no good to anyone if stolen anyway,so any thief who is in the know will know this,as the device once reported stolen won't be allowed to be activated online, you need to active it online for it to work, also when you activate it,it takes note of your precise location,so a thief would be giving away where they live.

Hence why Ring will replace it for free if its gets taken,as they know they can just brick the stolen one as soon as anyone tries to register it.

It’s annoying that they charge a fee to store video when they could just allow you to put a 32GB microSD in it and store hours of video for free. There’s a gap in the market!
