Anyone looking to get a ring doorbell get the pro versions, as they are the only ones that are properly powered and charged with adequate current to power the CCTV function properly if you want to use it for a while or even continuously.
I got a regular ring 2 and because it trickle charges, one battery takes 2 weeks to charge, meaning that the CCTV function while there and advertised, can only be used in very short amounts of time.
Read in one of the reviews that an electrician is not needed. You can buy the following and it's simply a plug and play. You will still need to run the wire.

It trickle charges from parasitic current that goes to the doorbell, which acts as a doorbell button.

Remember it's wired replace the doorbell button, so that when it goes short circuit your regular doorbell chime rings via your 12v AC transformer.
The current cannot be high otherwise it would activate the chime.

I had this confirmed with customer service, as when I drained the battery it charged only by 1 or 2 % per day.
The basic battery one is fine if your wi-fi works and you don't mind charging once every 2 or 3 months. The only other downside is you have to remove it if you expect temperatures -5 or below. Anyway, I know I painted a so so picture but I'm sure I only paid about £70 + £10 for the extra chime unit.

I've got chime unit and they work ok, and are cheap enough.
Only problem is battery life, but can charge via usb easily enough.

Oh I see you mean having the ring 2 hard wired, i thought you meant removing battery and charging it in the house took 2 weeks was going to say its a few hours. Im still pretty sure you had it wired up wrong though did you use the correct transformer for the ring 2 ? Because many others use it hard wired to existing dooebell wiring and dont have charging issues
Wired properly. In fact I wired the transformer directly to the ring unit and use the chime unit for my doorbell . This way it can absorb maximum current for its usage.
