Has anyone used this before?I have read that this "Lifetime purchase …Has anyone used this before?I have read that this "Lifetime purchase protection: If your doorbell gets stolen, don't worry - we'll replace it. For free" is only for one time. Also, read in Amazon reviews that if you don't pay for a subscription for live feed, you don't really benefit from this bell.

I have one of these.

The subscription is to keep video recordings of people who press the button or who are captured on camera when the motion sensor has been activated.

Personaly I don't use the motion sensor as we have cctv cameras anyway and I don't see the need to keep recordings of people who have rang the bell.

I use it for the function of being able to speak and see someone live who has pressed the button while we are out of the house, normally it's a delivery company,so I'm able to tell them to leave it in a safe place.

Example, the other day the post man had a packet for me and rang the bell because he didn't want to risk damaging it by forcing it through the letterbox,I answered the doorbell while I was over 200 miles away and was able to tell him to just push it through as I knew it was nothing that would get damaged. This itself saved me having to make a special trip to the sorting office to collect it another day.

We personally went for the dark colour of this bell as it doesn't stand out as much as the silver one,so less likely to get any unwanted attention, yet it is still easy enough to see when someone walks up to the door.

Only downside is that the darker colour ones don't seem to come up on offer as cheap as the silver.

I have the mains powered version of this (Pro). It can be used without a subscription but you'd be restricted to "live view" only, so no recordings of when it detects motion or bell presses. Probably fine for a lot of people. Sub is £25 per year which I don't think is a lot.

From Ring's t&c's -

If your Ring™ Video Doorbell is stolen at any time after your purchase, Ring Inc. will replace your Ring™ Video Doorbell at no charge to you. This purchase protection is not transferrable and applies only to the original consumer purchaser.

So it's highly likely that this has been registered (upon setting it up and using the trial)

The subscription isn't just for the live feed.

Edit: without the subscription it's limited to the point of being useless!

Not really....it's chunky..unless you've seen it or measure it out it will definitely be bigger then you imagined

You can usually tell how good a product is going to be by how many are in amazon warehouse, there are always loads of these. I don’t think they have got all the issues ironed out yet so I’d hold off.

That's the point innit? We get more rings than we did before with a normal door bell

We recently had an 'incident'. They made a mess of the door and the recording was very helpful assisting the police. It's pretty rough round here and despite everything that happened it's still on the wall but yeah...anyone wishing to remove it or vandalise it could do so very easily.

I saw it for the first time yesterday, it's like double the size you would expect! I can imagine it's a magnet for people wanting to nick stuff.

I wish these things didn't have certain functionality only available when linked to a subscription.

It's actually highly unlikely. Items sold as used aren't actually used. I've bought between 30-50 items from the Amazon warehouse and most haven't been out of the box. None of them I would consider used.

The live feed is free, you don't have to pay a subscription for that at all.

Why do you think it's useless if you don't pay to keep recordings ?

I would say the main selling point is so that you can see and speak to people live.

I have posted both the normal Amazon and also added the warehouse deal with 20% for open box in my deal, both in the title and also on body. It was edited by the moderators due to some strange reasons, may be assuming these are two separate deals.
Its expired now any way.

I find the original Ring quite desirable that Ring 2. Ring 2 is chinkier, and the perfomance benefets are not tangible....

price showing £99?

Why is there a sub on this? Seems insane

Are you asking why Ring charge a subscription ? If so then it's so they can make more money.

Or are you asking what the subscription gets you ? If so then read the comments as it's already been discussed.

Yeah I know. I worded my response to the question poorly, just one word can make so much difference
I've never used it like that (live) and I probably shouldn't have made such a statement based purely on my own needs, but for anyone who doesn't work in front of a computer screen or can't have their phone on them all the time, or is elderly/slow response etc the live view only with no recordings isn't suitable IMO.

In my opinion I would prefer the version 2 as it has the removeable battery... So I could have a spare and swap out instead of having any down time as such
