Great game, I paid a lot more than this for it and was still happy!

Rising Sun is a board game for 3 to 5 players set in legendary feudal Japan. As the Kami descend from the heavens to reshape the land in their image, it is up to each player to lead their clan to victory. Use politics to further your cause, negotiate to seek the most profitable alliances, worship the Kami to gain their favour, recruit monsters out of legend to bolster your forces, and use your resources wisely to be victorious in battle. Created by acclaimed designer Eric M. Lang, Rising Sun reunites the same creative forces responsible for the smash hit Blood Rage, with stunning artwork by Adrian Smith and intricate miniatures sculpted under the direction of Mike McVey.

About the Game

Unique Battle System
Eric M. Lang has developed a completely innovative battle system that forces players to bluff their intentions and out-think the competition.

Fantasy Art
Artwork by the legendary Adrian Smith will transport players to a fantastical version of Feudal Japan that retains all of the beauty of traditional legends.

Breathtaking Minis
The miniatures in Rising Sun are some of the most intricate and highly detailed that have ever been produced.

Playing the Seasons
Played over the course of a year, each Season in Rising Sun is divided into a Political phase, where players prepare their clans and set their plans in motion, and a War Phase, where dominance over each of the contested provinces is decided.

Each of the five clans in Rising Sun brings not only their own individual set of ten beautifully detailed miniatures for their Daimyo, Shinto and Bushi units, but also a unique ability that sets them apart from the others and affects all players' strategies.

There's tons of stuff in the box. I struggle to lift mine.

Some of the most detailed miniatures I've ever seen as well. A lot of love went into this game

That's a fairly standard price for a game like this. It's only considered high if you're used to traditional board games like Monopoly and Cluedo.

Indeed. 75 seems to be the usual price for this one (rrp 99)
Let's not tell him about Gloomhaven.

My group has been playing that since January.

Managed to avoid that one (for now), we don't play regularly enough for it to be worth it atm.
@Cedira just out of interest, does Gloomhaven live up to the hype?

Yes and no.

It's overall a very deep game with a mostly legacy choices.

The best part of the game is unlocking all the characters, quest locations, monsters, bosses, items etc.

It will depend entirely on your group of people as well, I think this game works best with 3 people and decent with 4.

There are so many little rules that you will have to keep looking up, because the game is so vast and the game guide cannot possibly cover every individual scenario, which we are still doing over 6 months in.

That being said, the core mechanics isn't overly complex, and the combat system is very well implemented.

If you're expecting a DnD like experience, this isn't what it is. Instead it's a combat focused cooperative dungeon crawler with RPG elements, some player choice and lots of lore. It's still a board game at heart and not a tabletop game.

If you are patient and meet up regularly to play (our group of 3 play once or twice a week and are about 75% through the game), are a pretty close-knit group who are willing to learn a lot of rules, this can be a very rewarding experience.

Great, that's useful to know thanks! I'd read similar but always best to ask someone who has actually played for their honest opinion.

Thanks, I'm sure it would be but we only meet every 4-5 weeks and have a mix of euro and ameri in the group so I don't think we would get the most out of it. I'll check the video out though, thanks for the recommendation.
