I have this and it works a treat.
If your doing more than a couple of cables avoid junk like this and invest in an pair of platinum. EZ connectors for the win

Decent for crimping/building cat6 cables?

Had a couple of these and they’re not very good. It’s also quite easy to cut yourself on the razor sharp cutting/stripping blade on the inside of the crimper.
Personally I wouldn’t advise anyone to buy one of these.
Bargain price if you get one that works and you’re not using it in industry. Just keep it away from kids.
I have this crimper, and I do not recomend it. but little more expensive. waste of time and connectors

Same here, I. Sure I paid about 8 quid. Heat.
Can't speak for this particular model but I've scrimped on crimps and always regretted it.
Don't scrimp when you crimp, pay that bit more for a quality tool here - comms-express.com/pro…ol/

Get a proper Krone punchdown tool as well.
These tools are brilliant (can't comment on this actual model). Needed to use one to put a Ethernet cable from an outbuilding to the main router and put job off for ages as I thought I would cock it up. To my surprise I was rather good at it. Much easier than I thought

This plus a reel of cable and connector ends worked a treat for wiring up my house (and a bit of Google for the wiring diagram!)

Failing to understand how a crimping tool affects performance of network?

It's 10x the price, so I'll probably give the cheap one a try first.

What he said 😃
I have this, used it with cat 6 cable and connectors, worked every time. The blades could cut you if you’re not careful though as they are very sharp.

It ought to be a quality tool for £28.80 (apparently works without dies) however even a pair of rj45s are £10.80 from them!

A bad crimp on one pin can cause all kinds of issues, from link-flapping to intermittent PoE delivery. Depending on the topology and the protocols used it can be catastrophic. There's a reason some tools cost more than others.
If you need this for work, i.e. regular everyday use - buy a better one.

If you need it for DIY, i.e. every other year, you use it once - this is fine.

Because a bad crimp often causes intermittent faults and they are the most difficult and time consuming ones to locate and rectify because the fault will likely disappear while you are trying to find it!
As an engineer I spent many frustrating hours and days tracking down intermittent faults, and the cause was nearly always a bad connection somewhere.
That said, this tool will be fine for DIY / home use but if you need one for work, pay a bit more.

Agree. For an occasional or one off use, this will be perfect as your only crimping a piece of plastic. The thing you got to worry about is the wire quality, shielded and other factors if you want trouble less network issue. Not trouble free lol. But yes spend a little more for something a tradesman will have in a tool box.
Now £3.99 should be expired
