Roadside Assistance @ GEM Motoring Assist

Just like roadside assistance from the RAC or AA but a lot cheaper - they've been around for 75 years, but they don't have their own trucks hence aren't anywhere near as visible or well known - but they've won awards for the service so seem very switched on. Special offer at mo add extra drivers for free etc... open till end of jan. They use local recovery companies, who they contact for you. Used this for the first time recenty and all worked like clockwork. you call, they say they'll be there within the hour, send you a text naming the co. that will be picking you up so you know who to expect. Was nice knowing that you end up using a local firm who I guess will get a set fee from GEM.

I am a sucker for brand names and it would take a lot for me to commit to a firm that I had never heard of. Shallow I know, but I need to feel confident with companies; especially in a breakdownn scenario.

It's been free joint cover for a long time now, however the cover is good value so will add some heat.

+1 sorry!

Green Flag are a well known brand name but work in the same way, using local recovery companies...

If it comes to unknown "reliable" companies, then i would stick to "Autoaid"

you can find alot of good repo online, including forums like MSE

btw, they use local garages, for example, i had a flat battery and they had "On-Time" truck within 40 min at my doorstep. and i pay around £37 for one year

I work alongside AA/RAC and to be honest these smaller organisations are no worse and in many cases much much better.

The £47.25p one is basic recovery,Which to me is not worth having if i break down i want to know they'll get me and the car home from anywhere,I only pay £65 for full breakdown cover including Europe with More Than.

There are lower cost options that this! This firm used to be listed on Money Saving Expert site, but doesn't seem to feature there now, unless I am missing it!
Always worth a look there for a good read around the subject:

There is more than just price to consider eg. if you tow a trailer or caravan, and is recovery of Pet animals included!? Just check you options before buying.

One that is not mentioned on the site is Mitsubishi owners can get a year's cover for £18 if they continue to get their car serviced by the Main Dealer after the intial 3 years inclusive deal included with the warranty has run out.

Don't forget 15% quidco.
