Would never buy another roberts product, own the model before that one stream 83i a month out of guarantee and the display gave up rendering the radio useless contacted Roberts who said pay £55 and we'll repair it, it should last longer than that why would I want to spend half the price of the radio again to get it fixed very poor workmanship and very poor customer service

I was recently reading a thread on Digital Spy about the 83i. Roberts have refused to update this model for the catch up services, wanting instead for buyers to upgrade to the 93i.
Refusal of updates is something that could easily happen to 93i owners after a few years. Its pretty out of order of Roberts when people are spending around £130 on these internet radios.
I was looking to buy the 93i before reading about this..... not going to bother now.

Just to put this into perspective, the 83i was released in 2012 and the 93i was released in 2014. They updated the 93i this year. Both radios use Frontier Silicon and it is Frontier Silicon's updates of certain chipsets that allowed BBC Listen Again this year.

So the issue is with Frontier Silicon rather than Roberts?

I don't know, it is a big possibility 83i likely to have an older Frontier module. But if you buy any of these you are essentially buying Frontier internals with Roberts external, so the point is probably mute. But I did read a statement from Revo that they could only update certain Frontier based internet radios to support MPEG-DASH for BBC Listen again as the others where not capable, so maybe the hardware just didn't have the muscle to do bespoke decoding?
