Robotech: Macross Saga Complete Series (6dvd Box Set) - £5.99 delivered @ HMV.co.uk

Bargain price for this boxset. Next cheapest price is £16.14 @ Bensons World. Thanks to potlepa for the pointer in another forum.

Synopsis : It's the year 1999, and the Earth is embroiled in a Global War that is systematically destroying every country involved. The international conflict is brought to a sudden end when a giant alien spaceship crashlands on the South Pacific island of Macross. This evidence of an advanced extraterrestrial civilization brings with it fears of alien invasion and soon the world's leading scientists are united in investigating the stricken ship in a bid to understand the complex "Robotech" technology responsible for its construction and operation. It is believed such an understanding could be mankind's only defence against outside forces.

Ten years later, the damaged alien ship the Super Dimension Fortress One (SDF-1) has been restored and is preparing for its maiden flight amidst great global celebration. But the party is over almost as soon as it is started when another huge alien vessel appears in Earth's orbit. It is the first of a fleet of ships belonging to the warrior race of the Zentraedi. Intent on galactic conquest, the Zentraedi are determined to take control of the SDF-1 and to destroy the earth in the process. But, with their newly found understanding of Robotech, a small group of human pilots are prepared to fight back against the seemingly superior alien firepower.

Was the series ever shown on UK TV?

If you grew up watching Robotech, and the adventures of Lisa, Rick Hunter and Minmei then this is the box set for you. Or if you have never watched Robotech then this is a good way to start as it tells the first, and most interesting, part of the Robotech saga.

All of the original 36 episodes have been remastered so it actually looks better than the original TV series. The sound is sometimes a little bit up and down, but on the whole the 5.1 works really well.

There are minimal extras with this set, but the 6 DVDs will keep you entertained for quite a while, or if you are like me, exactly the amount of time it takes to watch 36 episodes back to back.

Never watched it (played the original Vertical Shooter in my favourite club back in the early '90s though!), but seeing as I like Cyber City, Akira etc I though I'd give it a punt. Thanks.

You can buy the full 22 DVD boxset of Robotech off ebay for about £18 inc p&p. 4 episodes per DVD so the quality is is not reduced and it comes with the 20th anniversary keyring, postcard and poster. Audio is English 5.1. Sorry it's my first post.. is it taboo to mention ebay on here? ^^

Yeah it's a China release. Looks genuine enough, comes with a ISRC number and the DVDs are linked to the 'robotech union @ china' website.

Thanks for the welcome edi, good to see there are anime related deals too! ^^

The problem with those sets on eBay is they aren't genuine. Most are bootlegs and have been translated badly. I bought many of those sets before which I regret.

PS: Saint Seiya is the best series eva btw

not seen this since i was about 8 !!

great find thank you

does anyone know which series the bikes are in? rand or something

sorry been a while since i've seen any

The bikes series was the one after this one
Genesis Climber Mospeada was its Japanese title

Most of the anime sets on ebay are profesional looking bootlegs.

I've bought several anime box sets off ebay and they are not legit. They are poorer quality and the dvds are only about 4gb in size. Also there are spelling mistakes all over them. Similar to the Asian Collectors Editions of dvd box sets.

Yeah I agree most of them are dodgy copies but I bought this one last year and the picture quality is fine, there are no subtitles just English 5.1 audio. Quality is good enough for me, not 8 episodes per DVD like most dodgy animes.

Totoriko - Did you know Saint Seiya is still showing? I think the Inferno chapter is airing on Japan pay per view this month. PegasusRyuSeiKen!

You are referring to the Hades series right? I've watched till episode 13. Will need to find the rest
I did read the rest of it in Manga years ago.

I would say most of the big anime sellers on ebay that are based in China are selling bootlegs.

Take for example the guy selling the Robotech 22 dvd set. There is no way that is legit, I've looked at a lot of his items and they all look like professional copies. The collections he sells are not available anywhere other than China and I doubt the copyright owners would get away with selling them for so cheap.

Piracy is a right mess in China and practically legal. There are huge illegal companies that make these without the copyright owners consent. However the quality is usually pretty good, usually direct copies from the originals.

Up to 13 is the Hades Chapter. 14 onwards is the Inferno Chapter. I've seen up to 19 and I think 20 & 21 are airing this month in Japan. Just watching 14-19 cost me £15, but it is still the best!

It's listed as £16.99 now.

Mine arrived this morning, didn't really want to go to work but home now & up to Ep 9 allready:-D

Mine arrived yesterday too.Remember downloading all these when I first had broadband :whistling:

As this set only contains episodes 1-36,I was looking for the RoboTech-Masters box-set which includes episodes 37-60.Cheapest I could find was sendit.com for £15.89.

If anyone can find it cheaper...............

Try foreign shops like
dvdpacific and dvdboxoffice
I used to buy all my anime from them.

Is any one else still waiting for theirs or is it just me that hmv likes to delay things with.

mines finally been despatched

got mine on wednesday

Has anyone else got a problem with their set. My one has disc 2 twice and no disc 1!

mine arrived this week

not checked yet.....will look tonight and let you know

anyone know of any good prices for the next two sets of the series

ie masters and new generation

have to say...from what i've seen so far its very very good ...probably the best cartoon from when i was a kid that hasnt disapointed some 20+ years later

i mean he-man...watched that again and how in the world did i ever think that was great????

I think the story is great. The bit in the episode where Max and Miriya go to the arcades to play a holographic 3D shooting game is just fantastic. I was so amazed by the idea.

Just checked my one and I got disc 2 twice aswell!

I'm going to have to email them to sort this out. Manga are getting a bit sloppy.

Will have to check mine when I get home. I wanted to keep it sealed

Doesn't that make it a bit hard to watch?

I have the series already on vhs and vcd.
