This is great if you're thinking of taking the plunge.

I have this on console but the PC version is a far better experience.

Yes, Ubisoft
anyone know if the cable that ships with the PS3 version will work with th PC ??
Do you have to buy a guitar?
£1,353.58 worth of DLC.
I would love this for my daughter but I can only find the cables for £30 to £40 ...... am I missing something or is that the real price for a lead? and do I need one ... i am guessing yes.

Thanks for any info given

Game supports some models of air guitar
So so worth it! Brilliant game. There is also a dedicated community who create many custom tracks that aren't currently within the rocksmith library. Tons of material by bands like nirvana, Metallica, ac/dc etc... All you need to do is buy one song off the dlc. Check it out

Not really.

While the PC version is made by ubisoft, you're not forced to use their uplay software (or what ever they're calling it now) .

Your real tone cable will work with the PC, just plug it in and it'll be detected and setup by windows as a USB recording device. You might need to go into properties and turn the recording level up if you have low volume from your guitar, mine seems to like around 55, rather then the windows default of 17.

Lastly if you patch the PC (Steam includes Mac version as well btw) version you can use ANY input jack as a sound recording device in place of the real tone cable, and probably most importantly for the majority of PC gamers, it gives you the ability to run custom tracks made by the community over at customsforge giving the game an additional +1000 tracks to play.

Yep, cable is universal
How realistic is it to expect to actually learn competent guitar playing using this?
I'm a guitar teacher by trade, and i have to say this is a great bit of kit to practice guitar to. Not entirely sure how useful it is from absolute beginner standard, but i'm sure it can't hurt as the main thing is that you're picking up the guitar and using your finger muscles when starting out!

The best price for the cable is £24.99 from Amazon. As many have said, there are modded versions of the game file that also allow other cables to be used (at much lower cost).
Just to let people know, I saw this in GAME yesterday for £5 if you're looking for a physical copy.
Thread tldr

For this you NEED the official cable, 5.25 - USB, it usually hovers around the 25 quid mark (seen as low as 14, though not now).

There is a copy you can get where you can use a standard cable, however the feedback and distortion is out of control. I actually started picking up radio... Whilst I was playing...

So factor in the cost of the cable and its about normal price which is around 30.

Well worth the money I reckon, but given you HAVE to buy a cable regardless its hardly a deal

Box.co.uk sell the cable for £22.99 inc delivery (box.co.uk/Roc…tml).

Fantastic price. I've had this for a year and play it all the time.

Custom DLC for free on the PC version is a massive plus.

Flubit did me the cable for £22.37. Not bad.

Wow, I was going to say they're only £12.99, as that's what I paid for mine when the game first came out, but you're right - I've just looked and they're pretty expensive now for some reason! Best bet might be eBay - either just for the cable or for a cheap console copy of the game with cable.

There are cheaper cables, and homemade ones, but the quality is questionable. There is also a crack that enables you to use your microphone to pick up sounds from an acoustic guitar or electric + amp but that's not very reliable either.

I believe the consensus is that it's a great supplement to 'proper' guitar lessons - I.e. a fun way to practice - but I've tried learning the guitar on and off over the years and I feel that I've made more progress with this game than any other method.

eBay prices for the cable are way higher.
Love it! I wish that the DLC was cheaper but it never gets more than 40% off on Steam because of the music license holders. For example the Hendrix pack of 5 songs is about £15 with 40% off currently.................
Hot! Thank you!
Can you use this with the focusrite scarlett?
thanks for the help

I think some have tried and had varied success. In general, not using the default setup (with Real Tone cable etc) tends to result in latency issues and the game can become unstable.

From a programmers POV, I can see why they went down the route of the dedicated real tone cable and standard output hardware. They cannot guarantee that the hardware (especially the PC) has the processing power to cope with all eventualities, and, by locking in this cable, they try to eliminate that issue. Especially so considering this is designed as a multi platform game, where only in one of those platforms (the PC/Mac) is there any real prospect of improved hardware grunt to do the job properly.

In turn, this begs the question what they will do next? I think that they should have designed the software to allow 3rd party addons in the area of inputs and outputs, thus relieving themselves of responsibility of of arising issues but at the same time catering better to the evolving and maturing market. I do not think that they ever though it would get this popular.

Ubisoft are a big company and, as of the end of 2015 at least, do not seem to have a new version in their plans. Sad, because this 'game' could become so huge if they just worked on it.

There other things that could do. allow 'multi-track', where the guitar tracks are separate, as opposed to the equivalent (as it is now) of paying along with what feels like an MP3 track. With multi-track the game can (as you increase the difficulty) fade out that part of the music that you are playing.

The visualisation of the game was much better in the 2013 version, with you on stage and the band around you reacting to you. The menu driven system is quite poor, especially if you are looking for help. A Cortana type system would be much better. For example, 'OK Rocksmith, show me how to change my G string'.

Just my two pence worth.
If you have an external sound card, and the ability to record a guitar can you trick the game into thinking you have a real tone cable?

There are numerous reports of folk doing this on the Internet, some working (either fully or to an extent), some not.
