Do people still use 20'' crt TVs? Why else would you buy any DVD movie... Surely if you play that on 40''+ HD TV quality must be dreadful...

Like any consumer website/forum, I suspect that a lot of people on HUKD are ahead of the curve as regards fancy tech. We've got a 4k TV and a Blu-ray player, but didn't have them until late 2015.

There are plenty of people who will still buy DVDs. Heck, I'll even buy them for films where there isn't (to my poor eyesight) a massive difference. An animated film or a documentary won't look awful on a DVD.

I think you chose your example to show the gulf between older tech (DVDs) and newer tech (HD TVs), but there are doubtless plenty of people watching their existing stash of DVDs on a huge telly. FIL spends £100 a month on his Virgin bill, but happily watches DVDs on a 55" TV

There's nowt so queer as folk.

Why else would you buy any DVD movie..

To play in the car
To play in a kid's bedroom
To play at work
To play in a caravan on holiday
To play on a laptop on a train
Etc...

There are dozens of reasons. You have a very blinkered view of people's watching habits
