Thanks OP!! Btw - is it just me the women in upstairs looked like not wearing trousers? (Sorry (cheeky) )

W9ndy

Hi RickyL7, thanks for the info (y)

RickyL7

It says booking not required, so probably there is nothing to click (?)

W9ndy

Hi all it appears all of the given dates are now fully booked, as it does not allow me to tap on the toolbar. Anyone else having the same problem 😧

Noeldude

Interesting decision to put on free short shows. Possibly linked to recent criticism of the Royal Opera House who only put a handful of tickets for big productions on public sale despite receiving £25m each year from taxpayers. Good way to see a little opera if you're merely a taxpayer and not a ROH patron I suppose

Crazy good deal - heat added and thanks OP! (Although to be fair, having just looked, the cheap seats are standing and/or obscured view. Many are not suitable for "people of short stature." I mean, still a good deal, but not quite so great as it first seems)

keanoo

I've been there a few times in the cheap £5-£10 seats, view is not great of course, but it's still well worth the money.

Be grateful we live in a country that values and indulges culture. Imagine some of the countries that would scoff at this and you're probably not going to think of somewhere better than where you live now once you get past the first few.

OwlEye

excellent response to the silly troll. some people are so dull.

here's the interview if you want to listen to it. can't remember where in the prog it occurs - i was working my way through a bottle of gin at the time. --- Alex Beard discusses his first season launch in his role as Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House. Not to put a downer on the great price but it is worth noting that the 7 October performance is a rehearsal. Still hot tho!

Royal Opera House and Sun readers, OMG.

Info about performance: From the outset Kenneth MacMillan pushed ballet beyond the boundaries of fairytale kingdoms. Nowhere is this more compellingly successful than in Mayerling. It achieves a nervous balance between sprawling grandiosity and choreographic invention, beginning with the pomp of a royal wedding for Crown Prince Rudolf, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. MacMillan immediately plunges us into a sordid world of degenerate depravity where sex is both a weapon and a last resort. Rudolf’s bride (a cousin he neither knows nor loves), her sister, his mistress and his mother are all tangled up in his obsessions. The ballet compresses the final eight years of Rudolf’s life into a relentless downward spiral of political intrigue, drugs and murder. It culminates in 1889 with the suicide pact at the hunting lodge known as Mayerling between Rudolf and his 17-year-old mistress, the fervidly neurotic Mary Vetsera.
