For me, the best feature is that you can load a USB stick up with movies, plug it in the side of the Roku, and take it away with you...

I can't comment on the Amazon Fire TV Dex as I haven't used one, But for me the Apple TV was a useless shower of ****, and that is coming from somebody with an iMac (So I am far from anti Apple)

But I have had two of the things, I quickly sold the first due to it's (in my opinion) limitations of apps, around a year or so down the line I bought another in the mindset I may have been somewhat harsh of my judgement the first time around, Nope, still the same useless tech.

Said this before and I will say it over and over again, I would take a £10 Now TV box over an Apple TV.

How does this differ to a Roku streaming stick then? ?

I'm new to this myself, so still learning a great deal.
For me, what made me choose the Roku 3 over the others is that it's the only box that does ITV Player and 4OD.
The games are nice to have, but it's little more than a novelty.
Content is good, but the vast majority of the channels are US based and filled with trash.
Worth it if you plan to subscribe to Netflix or Now TV.

I'm using it a lot for BBC iPlayer - and while I have that already on my Humax PVR, the interface is far faster on the Roku.

Whether it was money well spent remains to be seen.
If I can work out a way to persuade it to watch the new season of The Americans on FX channel in the States then I will say yes.

Can you install xbmc

can it stream from your PC

oooh, so it now cost the same in the UK as it always has done in the US.

if this had happened about a year ago id be ordeiring one right now. as it stands, Roku can go shove it.

Apple TV is a waste of time. I bought and returned it. I also returned a chromecast, which I found a waste aswell. Agree with comments about the £10 Now box. Great value for money. This Roku3 is the TOTR and probably a good buy compared to the others. I have BT youview so get Netflix fm there, and now tv fm Now box.

Does indian channels offered in those 450 channels

wakkaday

Can you install xbmc

Nope, but you might be able to install channels on plex on your pc on the same netwok and do it that way

Roku 4 coming out soon

Awesam

can it stream from your PC

Ive got 2 of these and the Roku streaming stick. Stick is slightly slower but doesn't take up any space and also doesn't need a power adapter if your telly as a USB port on it. Both the streaming stick and the Roku 3 dont need line of sight for the remote because of bluetooth so can be out of the way. Install plex server on your pc and get the plex app from the roku store. Brilliant for movie collections and tv shows

Kodi =xbmc

amazon fire with xbmc downloaded works well for me.

Hot! I bought at Christmas, same money.I was unsure if my phone would run it but tethers to my phone and is flawless so far.Obviously it'll depend on your signal.BBC iPlayer in HD is brilliant.Cast Screen to it from Nexus7. The amount of channels available is mental.Man Channel is interesting! As others have said there are some random channels, really random! Brill bit of kit.Get one.

How have you managed with movies on your USB stick with the Roku? What put me off was its poor support for file all the various video and sound formats in that only a handful are supported. Presumably you use a very limited number of file formats for your movies?

awesome for streaming web content or your own movies using plex etc in 1080p. however, if you want to watch movies from USB stick or portable hard drive then the WD media player has far superior file format support.

seems dear for what it is

It has a Plex channel which as now is a real XBMC beater.

Big plus of this is an Ethernet port which is ideal for streaming HD content if you have a NAS/MediaServer.

Would buy but the game streaming from the Razer Forge has piqued my interest to hold off a little

Generic quad-core/2gb ram Android TV box from Amazon et al and you have all this, and more, for £35. What's this? Dual core and 512mb ram?
Used to love my WDTV Live, but not used it once since I bought my Android box - even plays ISOs flawlessly, something the WDTV was always a bit buggy with.

This type of thing. Try to get it dispatched by Amazon though, as a lot of these are sent from China by pigeon.

I think one of the top features of the roku 3 that sets it apart is the headphone jack in the remote. This makes it great for bedrooms.

Nowtv box is the best value at the moment though. Its made by roku and you get pretty much everything in a basic roku apart from netflix. So its the cheapest why to add iplayer, itv player 4oD etc. Netflix is a big omission but that's why it's so cheap.

I bought DVDfab and ripped all my BlueRay disks to MKV's with Dolby Prologic II in 1080p onto a 64gb USB stick, downloaded the artwork and saved the images as JPG's with the same name as the movie. It works fantastically well.

Another option would be an Android box with Bluetooth headphones.

as others have mentioned the headphone jack in the remote is such a brilliant feature
