Got one already, BRILLIANT.

Consider running Plex, or even better Plex RarFix for all your movies and TV shows.

Give me a WDTV Live with full HD Audio support and any file support anyday.

Plex is nice, but got that on my tv

I've got an old Seagate Freeagent + which I use to play movies.

I'm a bit confused with regards to "faster" media players......

What is faster? Is it just the navigation of menus or something else I'm missing out on? (I use my Sky box to access Iplayer & the like),

What advantage would I see by upgrading my player?

That's a bit out of date, as 4od and itv player are now available on Roku.

It was taken from the OP's review link

So not much better than a £10 nowtv box then?

I would strongly advise to avoid this and wait for Amazons Fire TV.

I say this as a disappointed owner of the Roku 3.

i hear plex al lthe time but can not figure out what its for. got xbmc running but cannot figure plex out lol

NowTV box is just catchup services. This is meant to be more of a Media Player, although by the sounds of it, it doesn't do a great job (only support plex + limited formats).

They seem very popular, so I might be missing something.

xbmc on this????LOL!!!

If you really hate streaming in 1080p when the NowTV box only manages 720 then yeah, not much better. (_;)

Aaaarrgghhh hate you for posting this. I think my Roku1 was about £49 and though I do love it, this is so tempting.

Ordered last night, collecting tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend a decent box for streaming Netflix?

Can you get Amazon Prime AKA Lovefilm Instant on these ? My Roku 2 doesn't have it... Apart from that great little things..

no, but better option is an android box, MiniX is a strong option

I much prefer my WDTV live and sumvision cyclone 4 for streaming stuff. Both can play anything you throw at it. The cyclone is an awesome bit of kit which I take abroad and stream HD movies and music videos from my Nas drive at home.
If you don't need flawed apps and just want a good media player/streamer then these 2 donor much better than the Roku boxes.

Meh, not worth 7-8x the money.

Damn I get told people don't mind paying £100 more for 2 more inches of TV!! NowTV boxes are restrictive when it comes to channels, not just streaming quality. There's so many more than NowTV which apparently restricts you to those Sky wants you to see.

My microserver re-encodes stuff as it downloads anyway, so file format limitations are irrelevant. I'm loving plex on the nowtv, but am tempted by this for the headphone remote.

I would like to stream content from my ps3 located downstairs to my TV in bedroom upstairs. would this be able to do that?

Sky NowTV is actually a cut down Version of a 'Re-Branded' ROKU 1 Media Box .. so yeah! .. theres a reason as to why your acknowledgement of the obvious simularities & the like ..... lol. :-)

Theres a reason its incredibly restrictive? .. its meant to be an incredibly CHEAP SKY TV-only Media Streamer? .. so what you expect .....

ROKU's are mainstream 'Streamers' (much like the WD Media Boxes, &/or SubVision Media Streamers, etc?) .. so you'd naturally expect more, no ..... lol. :-)

I'm kinda curious? .. would this (or for that matter?, any other) ROKU Box be preferable to that of an Android Smart TV Box instead?, or .....

They both have Linux-like Android-based Platforms (& to my knowledge too at least), have XBMC Capabilities too?, both have Multi-Core Capabilities, Powerful Graphics Capabilities, &/or Expandability Capabilities too ..... (& you can both Download, &/or Install new Android-based Channels/Programs via Google Play Store too yes?), so ..... (whats the benefit of one over the other? .. is there any?, or ..... )

I've always been a little bit confused over the 2 different Devices as to which 1 of the 2 is truly superior? .. there is no difference of the 2 anyway? .. or am I missing something in the equation altogether .....

Any/all input would be gratefully received.

Thanx. :-)

I have this box and use it mainly for streaming Netflix. I was using my PS3 but found it made the fan run overtime so got one of these. Put NowTV on it for the Sky Movies option so use this mainly for TV series and films.

How long has ITV player been available? they kept that quiet. Just added to my Roku2XS - which I recommend, its the extreme simplicity of the Roku devices which makes them great.

can anyone recommend a good android TV box please? or summot you can load apk files onto? like showbox? cheers

It was announced on the Roku blog a few days ago and it's been on all the technology news websites.

RE: Roku vs NowTV - the resolution has already been mentioned but the former also has Netflix and may get Amazon Instant (it's available in the U.S.); both will unlikely appear on the latter.

The nowTV is a roku LT, not the 1. As stated by others the nowTV will never get competing channels, it doesn't make sense for sky to subsidise the box then allow competition on it. The roku on the other hand will have whatever is developed for it.

Saying that, we only use plex!

I think you have two options. Either Plex, which requires you to have the Plex server running on your PC and then you download the Plex client onto the Roku box from the channel store.

Instructions:
Stream media from your PC to Roku box via Plex

Or the Roku 3 now supports DLNA through the Roku Media Player that's available from the channel store. You'll need a DLNA server on your PC (something like Twonky will do the job).

I would experiment with both of those solutions to see which gives the best results. Both support transcoding so you should be fine with whatever media formats you have.

Hat. I've got one of these & I think it's brilliant. The headphone jack on the remote is a great touch too. ITV Player & 4OD were recently added so you've go the full range of UK catchup/on demand, plus Netflix & Now TV, so you're covered for GoT, Breaking Bad, & Mad Men (if you have the subscriptions of course).

They were asking to stream from a PS3, not a PC - I'm afraid I don't have the answer either, though.

Chromecast is great for that. I'm not suggesting it's better than this in any way, but if that's all you're bothered about, it's cheaper and more convenient (plus can do some local streaming, iPlayer, YouTube etc.).

Hot from me.

I am not able to connect to the local network.
Its detected the wireless and wired network.
Error codes 013 and 014 is coming up.
What changes do I need to make at the router level?

Firewall and Mac filter is turned off in my router but no luck.
Trying to chat with tech support, but I am in queue for 2 hours.

[quote=mange]How long has ITV player been available? If it is available for one day it is too long. Complete dross.
