Can't justify it unfortunately, not with xmas on its way and I already have now TV boxes and 2 roku LTs.

A month ago I'd have snapped this up. I picked up a cheap Roku LT for Plex and Netflix while waiting for an Roku XS offer, but it was such a pain setting it up to run US Netflix. I had to hack my Sky router to be able to change the DNS settings. After doing this and tweaking other settings and running UnblockUS (monthly paid account) I was having issues with some websites not liking the new setup and decided it wasn't for me.
I've reset the DNS and removed UnblockUS and ordered a cheap tablet from eBay with an HDMI out and a 5m cable. All I have to do is boot up the tablet and run Hola Unblocker and voila - US Netflix with no issues.

Heat for this deal though (way, way better than the LT).

Still only 60% claimed, brilliant deal for the best streaming box out there.

These are no cheaper on eBay either, for a BIN you're looking at £90+ and for auctions they seem to go for higher than this Amazon deal.

Bought another, will probably need it in the new pad!

It's a good deal for sure although I haven't used mine since getting the Fire TV.

seen this on here many times but not sure what it actually is. do u need a smart tv? due to buy a new TV so if I was to buy a decent smart tv would I need this. plus we don't have an aerial so were planning on just watching on demand things via Internet. could someone clarify it all for me please.

Original Poster

it basically just turns your tv into a smart tv, has all the on demand services (itv, bbc, 5, and 4od)
can also play games such as angry birds
also has a usb slot in the back for playing videos/images/music form a usb

Ordered!

ok. so basically if I buy a decent smart tv I shouldn't need this?

Not available at the discounted price now.

You would think that there would be an easier way to view what's coming up and subscribe to certain products.

I've had this in my viewing list for the last couple of days and they have missed out on my money. Now it will go to a different seller and I'll buy a Roku 2.

gutted I missed it.... been looking at this, Amazon Fire TV and the Nexus Player for a while now. that price would have clinched it for the Roku3 I think.

Don't think buy. You buy now!!

Hmm, not possible seeing as you posted this after the cutoff time for the lightning deal.

As far as I'm aware there isn't one smart TV that has all the apps for streaming services. You will always be missing either Netflix, prime, now tv, or one of the terrestrial channel apps.

i think samsung's are the only smart tv's available that have every on demand service including netflix

Cold lightning deals should be banned

I was looking at getting one of these anyway so well chuffed at this price.

worth reading recombu.com/dig…tml

i have just ordered the now tv as i am likely to be using it for plex and you can add channels to that icefilms
also i will be connecting it via wifi anyway. i was going to get this roku 3 because it does 1080p but 720p is not much of a difference for me and also i may be buying a ps4 or xbox one soon and that pretty much will be like the roku 3 with channel options etc

ethernet is pointless
usb is pointless (as plex server will be set over wifi for all my content)

the now tv box only cost 10£ plus £2 cashback via topcashback

I hardly think it's bad because you couldn't hack into it.

That's the Roku 2 very.co.uk/rok…873

Gutted I missed this. Have wanted this for a while at a decent price.

bit of a sweeping generalisation - maybe it's pointless for you, but some people have weak wifi signals around their house, so ethernet cable to router is a good way to get reliable 1080p streams. I bought a Roku3 HD for this reason.

if anybody gets buyers remorse and wants to pass it on PM me

You can go straight to Nowtv.com and order the box for £9.99
Most electrical retailers/supermarkets sell it for £20/25 but that includes a Sky Sports or Sky Movies 3 month pass in most cases.

Roku doesn't have Amazon Prime Instant for is annoying for me as I could dump my old Xbox 360 if it did.

As mentioned Samsung Smart TVs have all the major UK catchup apps - samsung.com/uk/…ps/ making them better than a Roku IMO.

BTW this was a good deal, I was tempted but as I already have a Roku 2 it would have been a very minor upgrade.

I looked at these but worked out better to get a sony bluray player, which had netflix and lovefilm on it for 49 quid

Agreed, I have ethernet to my bedroom already because I used to use a PlayonHD in there so if I got one of these of course I'd use ethernet over wifi.
