Easy to use
The ROKU Express Smart Streaming Player works anywhere you have a TV and WiFi; just plug it in, and you're good to go. Even if you need to move to a different room because your daughter's friends want to watch a DVD, just take the box to another TV and continue where you left off.

Remote
The included remote gives you easy access to 150,000+ TV programmes and movies via your favourite streaming services. Whether you use Netflix, Amazon Video, or YouTube, you can stream it all through the Roku Express. There are dedicated channel shortcut buttons on the remote, so you can fire up your preferred streaming service with one button.

Roku mobile app
The free app turns your phone or tablet into a multi-purpose remote control. As well as making searching easier, you can avoid waking up the whole house during a late night binge by streaming the audio through your smartphone's headphones. You'll also be able to stream photos, music, and video from your phone to your big screen, so you don't need to squeeze everyone around one device when showing off your holiday snaps.

@Diamond_Studd get one these hooked up to your TV? Lol
Worth noting that Roku have launched Roku Channel today in the UK, which gives you access to 1000s of TV Shows and Movies for free with ads.

Good deal @merb0786
This or an android box?
By the time I've finished going through all these tv deal's im gonna be an expert lol
Apologies to crash the threads. I’ve read the comments on all but still confused.

I’ve got a fire stick and Now tv box at present but sick of all the remotes etc.. Roku seems to have everything I want in one box. But is it better to get this one or the premiere?

I don’t ‘sidestep’ the system. Just want prime, NowTV, Netflix, Disney+ and the general catch up apps.

Thanks!

Edit: I have a Full HD LED screen on the tv if that helps.

I have the Streaming Stick + and it’s great. If you are looking at reducing remotes then the Stick + is an ideal box as you can control the TV as well.

I think Firestick should be able to do that, as long as it's the 4K version.

Doesn't do Now TV.
Yep, I just signed up for nowtv this week and have spent too much time trying to sideload it onto the firestick. I’m on a first gen stick which might be contributing to my problems but I can’t get it to work at all
Is this the best stick available for watching YouTube?
Thanks
Agree re Now TV. Got a new Amazon Fire Stick thinking it was a good all in one solution and then find it's impossible to load the Now TV app. Lot's of guides on internet telling you how to do it but they are all baloney. Now Tv blocks installation of app on Fire Stick when sideloaded.. Not possible....

So Fire Stick is going back and I am buying one of these.
I can't believe that all the people buying this don't have a smart tv...
Have you ever considered some people might have more than one tv. Maybe their main tv has smart features and one of their others don’t? Or it could be entirely possible that people who aren’t particularly interested in technology don’t want to spend £200/£300 to upgrade to a proper smart tv
Also, a lot of smart TVs become pretty dumb in as little as 2 years. I'll never buy a Panasonic ever again.

I would like to use the roku at home normally with internet, but on occasion I would like to take it when I travel.

When travelling, I would like to play videos stored on my mobile phone.

Is it possible to get the roku express to connect to my mobile phone hotspot, without my mobile phone having any internet access, to play videos from a server on my phone?
I have an older version, not a streaming plus. I don't think it's necessary at all.

It does do amazon, netfliex, nowtv. I really like the interface. I have an older stick and it has youtube.
Another pro: you can listen to the streaming through your phone if you need to as well.
With regards to smart tvs, while they are now the norm - if you can get some more life out of an existing device, without paying more, it doesn't make sense eg what if you are in a flatshare and there's an older tv there... it sorts out the need for streaming.
I will use mine to watch UK TV channels abroad if the lock down ends anytime soon. Install a decent VPN on here and you can watch TV live or on catch up through BBC Iplayer and the apps for other channels. Make sure your VPN is capable of bypassing geoblocks (location check) though as not all of them are. I use privatevpn and works a treat for me when working abroad.

Ermmm.... none really!
weeZl08/04/2020 22:24

That's twenty quid saved. Thanks

Chromecast does...
YouTube
Now TV
Netflix
Prime Video
BT Sport
Disney+
BBC IPlayer
ITV hub
All4
My5
BBC sport

There’s nothing it doesn’t do. Apart from Apple TV+
Cheers

I don’t. I haven’t needed a new tv as the one I bought 7 years ago is still going strong.
