Sorry but cold, this is just pretty much the standard every day price this always is when not on sale. No idea why anyone would buy this, which can only stream 1080P when the massively better 4K Fire TV stick is available for just a fiver more

Think it is gonna get chilly in here...

If you don’t have a 4K tv and never will in the kitchen etc?

Also, not sure the Fire stick is compatible with Now TV.

I'd still argue it's worth it for the flexibility e.g. if you initially bought it for a kitchen/bedroom TV and then decided you wanted it for the main TV (which increasingly will be 4K) and eventually even smaller/cheaper sets will be 4K as economy of scale plays a part and they continue to get cheaper. Plus the faster CPU will probably make it smoother to use regardless of whether you are using the 4K.

Why buy the bare minimum when for +£5 you can get something much better?

Standard price is £25 decent deal if you don't require 4k.

It's not.

Even if it were, you can't rely on Amazon not to throw their toys out of the pram over one service or another in the future.

Its a good all in one solution though, Amazon firestick is tailored to Amazon Prime TV plus a few others, whereas this is the only (that I know of) Smart stick that covers all the major subscription packages of Prime TV, Sky NOW TV and Netflix

(I have NOW TV and Amazon Prime) - so with this its one remote only needed, plus all the usual free catch up services. And I don't have 4K yet.
I bought one last week from Amazon (for £14 with offer) to replace a firetv box. I was having isses with the Netflix app displaying an error and crashing whilst watching it so I didn't want to replace it with another firetv. The Roku is basic but has all the apps I need and the picture quality was also better than the firetv*. I only have space for 42" TV where it's located so no point in having 4k now or in the future. The only disadvantage I've found is that it doesn't have an app for Amazon Music for the Uk.

*Admittedly, it was an older firetv so I don't know what the newer ones are like compared to the Roku.

For a budget streaming stick this is excellent value. My son has a cheap HD TV in his room and this gives him access to my Netflix, Now TV and Prime Video accounts. I have another attached to our bedroom TV. I also have a Roku Streaming Stick+, which has the additional benefit of volume and power buttons (I can stick the main TV remote in the drawer) and 4K support, but that's (currently) £20 more and not everyone needs those features.

The Fire Stick is great, but no good to us because it still doesn't support Now TV, Prime Video and Netflix together.

As an owner of both, I much prefer Roku. It supports Now TV, has a much cleaner interface that isn't promoting Amazon at every turn, and is not secretly listening in on my private conversations...

Fire TV stick does support Kodi though, which is about the only thing going for it.

Fire TV stick doesn't support Now TV does it?

Not to mention those with Google Play purchased movies or shows have pretty decent Google Play Roku App available to them.
My firesticks became a stuttery nightmare with Plex so I swapped them for Roku and never looked back.

The main Roku is 4k, the rest are 1080p and work very well without recording everything you say.

Firesticks are intended for premium content from Amazon only, the Roku is designed to be flexible.

Mostly correct, the other streaming platforms that offer Now Tv, Netflix and Amazon in one solution are Chromecast and the much higher priced Apple TV HD and 4K boxes. The Nvidia Shield also can do all three with Amazon and Netflix native apps, plus Now Tv through chromecasting. Out of that lot the single best box for streaming is probably the Apple TV 4K, but it should be at its price too, for value for money the Roku express is excellent.

Thanks for the extra info, I have an older Apple TV, might give a newer one a try, but I agree they are expensive for what they are. cheers!

No problem, if you are a heavy Now TV user I'd still wait for a while. The standard app is really poor on the apple tv 4, same one as on the old boxes. I'm lucky enough to be part of their beta program so at least I'm using their new app which is essentially identical to their roku app. I'd wait until that launches to the public before jumping in. Otherwise it's a hell of a box, even has full BT Sport apps let alone all UK catchup including UK TV Play etc.

Thanks for the advice. Yep I'm a heavy NOW TV user, to be honest I find their Smart stick (and the smart box) before it brilliant - caters for all my needs well apart from Amazon Video. And now they have voice search on the NOW remote and ability to turn the TV on off and volume has made life a lot easier. Its that good its pushed me away from hardly using my Apple TV, blu ray hardly at all, and prime which I only use occasionally on a smart TV with the app built in. Maybe I'll upgrade my Apple TV later in the year then when the new NOW app is out for. much appreciated for the advice !
